I will still watch the Euros but I dont think as many as normal will be watching.
I think it would be popular cos it wll generate a lot of income and revenue that is now all but lost with us flaking out last night.

22 November, 2007 at 10:28 pm #293622i can’t see how uefa could stop it, or would want to stop it, teams who are not in the finals still have the right to arrange friendlys outside of it

What a load of b*llocks… a bunch of British Isles losers in Europe setting up a second rate competition… how embarrassing! And how would that benefit a shout for the 2018 World Cup … good god… save me!
All I care about at the moment is having something to do next summer, crikey by 2018 I will be officially old!

it will be happening next year, it will be called the celtic cup… it will include scotland, wales, ireland and the republic
no England though, we have to organise a friendly against san marino instead
23 November, 2007 at 11:10 am #293626England could still be involved in the Celtic Cup.
Even if they arent it certainly seems like the England-Scotland game will return next year, and it’s a game that will get the juices flowing.
23 November, 2007 at 12:52 pm #293627A LEADING member of the Tartan Army has given his backing to a proposed home nations football tournament next summer.
The editor of The Famous Tartan Army Magazine, Iain Emerson, voiced support for the plans after the failure of any team from the British Isles to qualify for Euro 2008.
He said, “I think it would be great for the nation and would be good to play the English again, particularly after the terrible way they have been playing lately.
“A Celtic Cup including Scotland, Ireland, Northern Ireland and Wales has often been spoken about, but something might go ahead now England are out.”
The idea has been welcomed by many Scotland fans.
Prime Minister Gordon Brown said, “I know every football fan in Britain was looking forward to a summer of football next year, so it’s very disappointing.
“Some people have called for a one-off revival next year of the home internationals.
“That’s something for the football associations and clubs to consider and I would certainly enjoy that.
“I have got great memories from the 60s and 70s, but that is a decision for the football associations and clubs.”
Although it is a mouth-watering proposition for fans, many club sides are unlikely to want to risk injury to their expensive players in a tournament with no FIFA recognition.
Mr Emerson said, “I would hope the SFA and Scottish clubs would give it their backing.
“The step of rescheduling the Old Firm was taken to help Scotland prepare for the game against Italy so I can’t see why not.”
Home internationals, where the four nations making up the UK would play each other once a year, were a long-standing tradition.
The games were scrapped in 1984 with club fixture congestion, fan violence and England’s domination cited as reasons.
Mr Emerson added, “It would be great for the Tartan Army to get back down to Wembley and I don’t think you would see any trouble like there has been in the past.
“All of the stadiums are much easier to get to than having to travel abroad and Scotland are playing so well just now that we can match any team.
“We would relish the chance to get some national pride and this could be an opportunity to do it.”

Terms and Conditions23 November, 2007 at 1:37 pm #293628We could invite all the other countries that didnt qualify as well. Stick a great big middle finger up to those who wont let us join in their stupid European Championships. A cup for losers basically and the winners could have automatic qualification into the next losers competition.
