It’s also 39 years since we won the world cup
We finished the groups stages with the second best record in Europe
As I’ve said since Ive been on JC, we have a team with the potential to be the best there is, our fate lies in our own hands next year-
I think football is coming home in 2006
10 December, 2005 at 1:47 pm #174080I’d love to think you are right, Slayer.
A good draw, I think, but it was never going to be as bad as last time. The tests will come in t’knockout rounds. I think we’re better than we were in Japan. If everyone stays fit, we should go a long way. I can’t see beyond Brazil, though, if everyone plays to potential. Germany always give it a good go too, regardless, it seems, of the quality of their squad. At home, I’ll expect them to be there or thereabouts.
 It is so much more exciting than Chrimbo. I’ll be lucky not to explode before June.
10 December, 2005 at 2:24 pm #174081England should qualify for the knockout gig easily.. but securing first place in the group will be vital methinks.. and Sweden will prove difficult.
As for winning the whole thing :?.. No chance.. they have a manager with a palpable fear of heights :? I see them reaching at least the Quarter finals… Semi finals tops.
Methinks Italy are strong.. they came to Dublin recently, and for the first half hour played with a gusto and purpose that was a breath of fresh air from an Italian team. They battered us to bits (not too difficult nowadays, but they were awesome), and this new found urgency coupled with their perennial tight professionalism will make them a force to be reckoned with.
Together with an on-song Brazil and typical work-horse Germany.. I can’t see any other team doing it.
11 December, 2005 at 3:42 pm #174082With great enthusiasm, and much optimism, I got an England v Italy final that, of course, England were triumphant in. We have got a lovely road to at least the semis, I reckon.
11 December, 2005 at 8:54 pm #174083I agree with many here in respect that we can bring the world cup back to the home of football, and i will enjoy the world cup and support england with as much passion as i always have before.
Only if we play together as one side and not as a goalie and 11 egos will we truly succed though.
The problem with England is too much complacency at times, not enough communication, thats the only weakness where any of those teams.. particularly sweden…would be tricky at all.
man, you’ve only got to look at previous international tournaments
cameroon, czech republic, south korea ffs….teams that all have pulled rabbits out of the hat before and surprised us all.
..and the fact that england always manage to end one or more games in the opening rounds with a draw lol…..millions of bitten lips in england every four years. too early to predict results but rooney will be a major factor in this tounament….as will the whole team which in my view of late has never had so many class players in the team.
come on boys

11 December, 2005 at 10:22 pm #1740856/1 second favourites now with most bookies, because of their easy 1st stage draw.
Surely this dastardly deed wont take place. I can imagine myself as a 50 yr old man watching reruns of the year England brought the cup home in 2006.
NOOOOOOOOO. Id there’s a God he wont allow that to happen.
Lets all say a prayer to him just in case.
Our Father who art in Heaven. Hallowed by thy name……11 December, 2005 at 11:20 pm #174086If it was scotland were in it and england didnt qualify….i’d support scotland
11 December, 2005 at 11:45 pm #174087Well I dont care what you’d do, I aint supporting England. They’re so gay and arrogant. :D
