I love French but we don’t have any threads dedicated to the language.

Today has been significant for me because of something that happened an hour ago. I’ve learned a lesson and I hope to put that right in everything I do in the future. So in French…..

Quand un ami ne tenez à votre avis, il serait peut être temps de décider si oui ou non il s’agit en fait d’un ami du tout.

    Hi Terry

Look at the resonant lyrics thread in arts section …I’ve put a song in there that you might like ..Qu’est-ce Que C’est Que Ca?

    Et bonjour !
    :D

I agree with J in France on this subject….it’s not about your mate not valuing your opinion Terry…it’s about him needing to work things out how he see fit

I am like Gomez Addams when it comes to French. Speaking in la langue d’amour gives me goosepimples and makes me want to give Morticia little pebble-kisses up her arm

    oh
    sorry
    ahem *tries to maintain dignity

when I first went to France, I genned up on me textbook French but couldn’t understand a word once there. They all spoke so fast, not like my French teacher at all. I tried to pass myself off a a fluent speaker, only to arouse smiles among the polite and guffaws among the less polite.

eg a tired scept asked ‘how much is a tasse de caffe?’

or on the train, I asked in what I thought perfect French whether this ‘cabine’ was full ie can I have a seat please? This caused unease, and I found out late that ‘cabine’ was French for a train toilet..

ah well, so much for my mastery of la langue d’amour. Anyone apart from Mrs T want to sign up for my barbican seminars? Can I teach you Swedish, Mrs T?? Oops, didn’t mean it that way

I think you will find if you say s’il vous plait before anything else, they will understand, also adding a merci boucoup after your question helps a lot! :)

I’ve got the Paul Noble cd course from WH Smith.

Women with a French accent just do it for me.

“When a friend does not value your opinion, it might be time to decide whether or not this is actually a friend at all.”

You can value an opinion without agreeing with it.
I don’t expect my friends to agree with my opinions all the time, that would be boring, but if they are dismissive of my opinion and don’t respect it then I have to question whether they respect me…and if a person doesn’t respect me can they really be a friend?

This is the point I was making.
