Eight-year-old Botox user taken into care in America
Some years ago I read an article on US beauty pageants and cringed at children from 2 years upwards being turned into mini adults in the pursuit of prizes – it’s a big bucks industry. The hair dying, curling, false eyelashes, makeup, outfits and dance routines made you concerned for the physical and emotional welfare of the children and question the sanity of the parents. I remember reading about a child who had won a lot of prizes and was depressed about her approaching 7th birthday as it meant she could no longer compete in that age band and was moving into the next age bracket. She was concerned she would no longer win any prizes and rather than doing the sensible thing and taking her out of the pageant scene, her parents had her on antidepressants and seeing a shrink so that she would be ready to take on the next stage.
Now it seems it has reached new heights – or depths maybe – with parents injecting their 8 year olds with Botox.
It’s easy to say “only in America” but the mother is British. With the craze for US style beauty pageants starting to hit the UK, how long before it happens here?
Putting aside the risks of Botox itself, who knows what psychological damage this has done to the child who obviously doesn’t know the difference between expression lines and wrinkles and apparently needs this treatment in order to feel confident.
Maybe now this has come to light she will start to have a more “normal” childhood, but the mother indicates that this is common practice…who is going to step in for all the other children being injected by their “loving moms”?

When my daughter was younger we went to the clothes show in London together and I was approached by a model agency asking if I had considered my daughter modeling. I hadn’t but I listened to what they said… and even took advantage of a free photo session.
A few days later I had a phone call from them saying they had a client interested in using her for a catalogue shoot it was booked for three weeks hence….it was suggested to me that she dieted for the shoot..lol… I said goodbye to them… to this day I dare not tell my husband about it. My daughter was about eight at the time she was keen on sport and has never been overweight.
