Drug addicts across the UK are being offered money to be sterilised by an American charity.
Project Prevention is offering to pay £200 to any drug user in London, Glasgow, Bristol, Leicester and parts of Wales who agrees to be operated on.
Whilst I fully appreciate the health risks for babies born to drug addicts and alcoholics, I found this very disturbing. Not only is it eugenics by stealth, but it also means that a drug addict or alcoholic who takes this bribe when at their lowest ebb and then goes on to kick the addiction can then never have children.
Thoughts?
18 October, 2010 at 10:34 am #450146A drug addict would surely accept any money for whatever reason if they need a fix? They are hardly going to think of the long term consequences. They are unable to do this, thats why they abuse their bodies such.
It’s a very disturbing story. Who on earth sits behind a desk and thinks these things up? It’s quite one thing paying obese people to lose weight (even that bugs me) but this? Some would argue that it’s a good thing, that people like druggies should not have kids especially when so there are so many childless couples out there aching for children.
But like Jen said…what happens when these people are able to turn their lives around and come off drugs and want to live a normal life. There must be thousands and thousands of people who come off drugs succesfully.18 October, 2010 at 10:55 am #450147There was a bit of a scandal up here in Scotland a few months back..a female was visiting her doctors, she walks with a slight limp. Before she could get in the surgery she was approached by 2 women standing outside. They offered her £200 to go and get sterilised. ! she was outraged as they assumed her limp meant she was on drugs. Her picture was in the paper and I can say she was NOT the stereotypical junkie looker. I can see there being consequences with this one,, Re folks agreeing, maybe really skint and xmas a coming etc, then changing their minds a few years down the line.
18 October, 2010 at 12:10 pm #450148Would our cousins be trying to instigate social engineering by any chance ? Or is it what could be known as de-population ? I wonder if Bill microsoft moneyman Gates planted this seed :x

Surely though if it was a plan to De-populate, then they’d offer the same service to others, or force this upon those who have abused kids, and so on? Not just those who are addicts? Maybe they’re thinking of the safety of the children born with the addiction, who will only end up in care anyway as a result of being brought into the world by a parent who won’t be in a position to look after them..
18 October, 2010 at 11:26 pm #450150Then offer them long-term reversible contraception, not sterilisation.
18 October, 2010 at 11:49 pm #450151Perhaps in the governments eyes, these people will be free to have the temporary option reversed without the governments consent?

I would think it highly unlikely that people in control of their own mind and actions unlike that of the “junky”, would not even consider this for this amount of cash. The addict however would “sell their own grandmother”, as they say. I agree with jen, this would be a very viable alternative.
