A year ago there was a report about how Doncaster Council was failing children so badly 7 children died, in terrible ways. All of them failed by the social services in that area.
Council was warned ‘children would die’
Council bosses in Doncaster were warned four years ago that their actions were putting children’s lives at risk. The council, which last year had double the national average number of children on its protection register, is currently under investigation following the deaths of seven children in the area.
A wooden cross in Edlington Cemetery, on the outskirts of Doncaster, marks the spot where Amy Howson is buried.
The 16-month-old baby was murdered two days before Christmas in 2007 by her father James. In an echo of the Baby P case last year, he had snapped his daughter’s spine.
Amy was malnourished, dehydrated and had numerous fractures to her arms and legs.
Her mother, Tina Hunt, was convicted of cruelty. The family were known to Doncaster Social Services.A few months later in another part of Doncaster, Alfie Goddard was squeezed, shaken, and thrown down the stairs of his home by his father.
He was three months old when he died.Neighbours say the family were visited regularly by drug counsellors, and that social workers or health professionals visited as often as three times a week.
Amy and Alfie are two of seven children who have been the subject of s
erious case reviews in Doncaster since 2004.http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/programmes/newsnight/7923188.stm
They were failing in their duty, and still they did nothing. After the Edlington boys, there is now going to be an inquiry.
Who are the real murderers of these little ones?
And now one of the main players Susan Law is in another town, doing the same thing there.
14 February, 2010 at 3:49 pm #432142We always seem to attack social services, and sure mistakes get made but that happens everywhere. I often wonder how tied social services are how many hoops they have to jump through to actually do anything constructive. How many of us would scream if they removed our children and then found they’d made a mistake but allowing them to make those kinds of mistakes, within limits, would at least give them some actual power to protect
14 February, 2010 at 6:29 pm #432143i agree pete, id rather they took my child away just incase while they investigated then returned him than risk his life and safety, i would give my own child up for adoption if i felt i was in anyway a danger to him, rather that than have him come to any harm.
The social services have failed too many pus sy footing around, its the children that are important not if the parents are a bit put out, if you are innocent, loving and caring, you will willingly, although tough, allow this to happen for your childs safety.14 February, 2010 at 8:13 pm #432144Isnt it a very sad situation that these services continue to fail the children of this country… time and time again we hear of the increasing workloads of these community services, of course there can only ever be one gulty party and that is those who cause children direct harm…. research by Unison and others last summer showed the services overworked and underpaid….i really do ask myself who is responsible for this,of course we all know….i fear that in ten years or so we will still be reading headlines just like the ones we have seen all to much of….a very disturbing catalogue of absolute neglect year on year from those given authaurity in this country…i curse them all in my heart on this day valantine

WHO knows ?

That is a throwaway response to a serious question. You said…. of course we all know.
But who is “we”.
And…. is it the social services? the government? the councils? or do we just blame society as a whole, and if we blame society as a whole, that means the “we” who is to blame is all of us and the “we” who is responsible for the whole shameful state of things…. is US.
I am not convinced, personally, I think that there are a lot of people who are incompetent. Their answer to things is to “restructure” and then nobody knows what they are doing, endangered children are not taken into safety, and danger signs are missed. There is a climate of fear, nobody dare criticise. There are people who DO care and they get ignored.
So….. i repeat…. who are the murderers?
