Got a pair last Christmas black with floral interiors with black ribbon laces ( as well as a spare standard DM lace Absolutely love them, but unfortunately they slice my heels every time I wear them so have only worn them a few times …. Anyone got a good idea how to break them in? Cut free?

Laney i was told and done to put them in hot water to soak but cant remember if it was boiling water. It worked, will look online later to see if theres anything.

Or alternatively just wear them in the house each day for an hour or so for a few weeks, while you do chores etc, only until your feet warm up the leather then take them off. The sweat helps breaks down the leather and eventually molds it to your foot shape. You can also buy blister free hiking socks these days which would certainly make them more comfortable to wear.

I own two pairs of Doc martins, i love them! i have a cherry red leather and purple patent leather pair. I have suffered with planters fasciitis and ankle instability for some years caused through running etc a podiatrist suggested i should try them out as they have a layer of air in the soles. I decided to invest in my first pair the cherry red ones they worked like a dream from day one, the purple ones did blister then someone recommended 1000 mile socks, no more blisters. Can’t wait to get back into them this winter :-) For those whos docs blister you can find some clips on youtube how to break them in. Never use boiling water this  may make your boots more pliable and the stitching disintegrate over time.

One tip i found for sore heels due to any footwear is this…….wear them a few times short distances and then leave them in the cupboard for a few weeks or a month or any specific time after that. if they still hurt, leave them for longer. Its all about the stretching of the material then leaving it for a while.

Of course every one’s feet are different but all material needs to be stretched and worn in.

Thing is about docs as well is the amount of laces you have and how tight you tie them or how loose. This all has an effect on the leg muscles as they work. Thing is about Docs is that they are above the ankle line so one has to think carefully about how the boots are moving with the foot, ankle and lower leg.

When i was at school many years ago, had a few complaining about their Docs and after looking at the way the laces were tied……helped a few to be more comfy walking in them.
