You are quite right Sharon …. clerks in clerk’s clothing and an intellect to match.
Yes the bright ones get themselves into the special investigations teams and they are targeted with capturing those who don’t pay their share of Income Tax and instead sponge on all those of us who do pay.

I bloody hate tax, but cant remember being so young to never have paid it lol so too right people should be made to cough up and pay their way.
I just dont have much faith in HMRC our paths have crossed many times at work, have spoken to supervisors and managers on all different aspects, from finding people for divorces through to unpaid tax and it does make you wonder how they ever passed the interview stage at times.
26 October, 2007 at 7:30 am #291963sorry to dissapoint PB but as im registered self – employed & keep all receipts & pay my NI on a monthly basis , i can honestly say I have nowt to worry about :o When somebody sets up a buisness doing what they like doing , whats the point of taking short cuts ? Might as well do it right from the word go , as for the carboots people , well thats just a weekend thing , after weve worked all week at the shop, plus it pays for new stock for Swinderby & Newark Antique & Collectors fairs we often frequent . Any thig else you wanna know please feel free to ask wont you …….

26 October, 2007 at 11:01 pm #291970Of course UGO – since he has been mentioned by others – will not need to pay capital gains tax (CGT) as a market trader – simply corporation tax on his business profits.
Mind you if he is using his van for commercial purposes (to carry his stock around for example) he will have to insure it for a little bit more than Social Domestic & Pleasure use.
