Firstly its a stupid topic for a thread cos clearly there are good and bad parents whether single or otherwise but there are some stats which go to show that whilst the few on here may shout very loudly in support of single/unmarried parents, overall something aint right
This country has
Highest number of teenage pregnancies in Europe
Highest number of single parents in Europe
Highest number of divorces in Europe
Highest number of homes occupied by one person only in Euorpe
Highest abortion rate in Europe
Highest teenage abortion rate in Europe
Highest number of pregnancies to unmarried mothers in Europe
And thats without mentioning drug and alcohol abuse etc etcSomething is causing this? It is a cancer in our society which is growing and growing? For me it isn’t really about individual parents (although I tend to agree with PB around marriage etc) its about how society views things.
Anyone can be a bad parent or good parent and there are clearly some quality parents on here who are very vociferous but take one step back, take a deep breath and think again. Why do we have the highest number of divorces and highest teenage pregnancy rate and highest teenage abortion rate in Europe? Are they really not connected?

i think if they can support kids by working 9/5 then why not?its not wrong kids in care need homes so why shouldnt ppl be allowed 2 bring them up

It is not a stupid topic, as alot of people seem open to discussion about it. But I will admit, however that I could have rephrased the question to something like do unmarried/single parents make bad role models or set bad examples or something like that. It may have made more sense then.

I meant to say the title was stupid not the intetnion behind the thread as it is clearly worth debating

your proberly single parent yourself.I think the translation is single parents have nothing to do with direct or indirect parenting which is not positive in nature
So give me a reason why this country has the highest divorce rates in Europe, the highest teen pregnancy and highest teen abortion rates (and I might add the highest number of sexual partners before the age of 18 for both male and female)
It is not always about conscious role modelling
Example A
Mr and Mrs X split up with two kids who live with Mrs X but stay weekends with Mr X.Mr and Mrs X are now single and live a little in theri new found freedom (only a couple of partners each in the first year though)- then have a couple of medium term relationships (1 partner per year for 2 years) and then each settle down in year 3 with a partner who they are each now with. Sounds normal, simple and nothing too wrong there
Except the kids see 10 (count em) different partners in their parents lives in 5 years, don’t see the need to work at a relationship and see it as less valued. The parents have done nothign wrong and certainly no one would say they were “slappers” etc but what is the impact, subconsciously, on young children COMPARED to a stable married relationship (and yes, the argument for stable unmarried relationships is still open)
Just because single parents (and I’m counted in the single parent now remarried category) consciously act and behave in a way designed to support their kids doesnt mean the impact of actions arent there
IMHO
