Could you tell by reading an article if it was written by a man or woman.
Apparently there has been a study which revealed…
“Female writers use more pronouns (I, you, she, their, myself) … Males prefer words that identify or determine nouns (a, the, that) and words that quantify them (one, two, more).” (Ball) Some of the other feminine keywords include: with, if, not, where, be, should. Some of the other masculine keywords include: around, what, are, as, it, said. This suggests that language tends to encode gender in very subtle ways.
Seems a lot of hassle counting words tbh..

in chat ive noticed a lot of men come in as women
but hardly any women as men
barring the obvious 2/3 we know
ive never come in as a womans name myself,but other users have admitted they do come in,in womens names,so they can laugh at other male regs,who they know in pm
one chilling scary story i do know is,but i cant say names (no it wasnt me)
that one particular male user,had a beef with another male user
kept up the pretence of being a woman
after weeks of chat she????? organised a meet with the guy
“she said i cant meet you in a pub,cafe etc im married lets meet somewhere quiet
i dont want to get caught
so the guy fell for it
and on a dark rainy night he was beat to a pulp by a gang
he doesnt post in here anymore needless to say
is this an urban legend? myth? sadly no or is it?

can you tell if its an ambigous hermaphrodite name
lets say a user was called thing
do you know if its a man or a woman
by the way they type?I heard a story similar to that one but didn’t know if it was true or not.

I have always used lets call it neutral names and have been mistaken for a female on many occasion…maybe i write like a female…
I think i can tell most of the time but cant really explain why..its just a sense i suppose.

some people like to read chat,some like to lurk,some people need to take over and cant keep their gobs shut,well i know its fingers but hey ho

that maybe construed that im having a “pop” or a “dig” at said user

:DI have recently finished reading Cathy Reichs book Bones to Ashes. Part of the story involves the comparison of poems written by a girl aged about twelve and a grown up women. Both are French Canadian with English as their second language.
Though this book is a work of fiction I think the research would have been very thorough and the information about the use of words and phrases very interesting. So yes it is possible to tell the difference between whether it is a man or a woman typing is clearly visible to someone who is an expert on the subject.
As someone who finds UK accents fascinating as they are so often very localised it is interesting to watch the use of words relating to certain regions. Though I am not from the north east I find it great that people there can almost pinpoint where others come from with the difference in accents in Middlesborough, Newcastle and Sunderland areas.
As to chat and forums, everyone has their own individual style, some are very obvious others not so, but watching long enough it is often easy to recognise name changers or sex changers. These days when people have used chat for many years they become attuned to how others write so those who pretend they are something else are often easily spotted.

so maybe we all have distinctive traits
also with the accent thing,i find it quite funny that people type in their regional accents,a Scottish friend of mine does it a lot (she knows who I mean)
a lot of geordies do it as well
I don’t think theres anything wrong with it tbh
its just a case of typing what youre thinking at the time
