I think yes, they would be very depressed and that depression due to the circumstanses would be considerd mental illnes.I think they would be put on medication to help them deal with the worry and stress.circumstansual depression if sever enough would cause black depression that would need medication,i would think anyways.Just my vew.
I think it’s the term mental illness which I have a problem with. The definition of a mental illness is ” a condition which causes serious disorder in a person’s behaviour or thinking.” To me that signifies a way of acting which isn’t conducive to “normality” or logic and not within the normal parameters of behaviour ( if normality is deemed to be aspired to). If someone is depressed due to circumstances which would depress virtually anyone, it isn’t a mental illness or sign that their brain needs treating but their circumstances. Mentally ill people in my eyes are people with disorders of their brain and not people who are depressed due to lifes events which would depress anyone.

Like certain illnesses, such as diabetes, anxiety disorders might be caused by chemical imbalances in the body. Studies have shown that severe or long-lasting stress can change the balance of chemicals in the brain that control mood. Studies also have shown that anxiety disorders run in families, which means that they can be inherited from one or both parents, like hair or eye color. In addition, certain environmental factors — such as a trauma or significant event — might trigger an anxiety disorder in people who have an inherited susceptibility to developing the disorder.I think this to be true.Ifeel that prelonged stress is bound to triger an imbalance in the brain in some people.
4 December, 2018 at 6:40 pm #1110273I take studies with a pinch of salt , studies show that red meat is bad for you on a Monday, good for you on a Tuesday, lack of sleep linked to brain damage on a Wednesday , no link found on a Thursday etc etc. I think people are too quick to throw the mental health label at anything to disguise the fact many issues are nothing to do with mental health but external factors in a fairly cruel world where suffering is inevitable.

4 December, 2018 at 6:52 pm #1110274I think the more mental health is studied the more is learned.Having been ill with mental health problems for so long it has gave me an insight in to my illness and a little insight to geniral mental health.

Rude…
I hear what youre saying and i dont disagree with it BUT it isnt always circumstancial. When i had post natal depression, it was a chemical imbalance, this time im not so sure, this year has been tough, i think it triggered a lot of repressed issues.
Upate time…
First cbt session today. Its a ten week course, 2 hours a session lookinng at mood management and critical thinking. First session covered what cbt actually is, what we want to acheive from the course, that kinda thing. We looked at the “hot cross bun” how our thoughts affect our mood, behaviour and physical reactions and how they are all intrlocked. Actually seeing it in black and white was pretty emotional. This course offers me hope, hope that i can beat this depression, that i will learn stuff to help me understand myself better, hope that i can use all this to be the person i want to be.
Next week is our positive traits and our successes…. thatll be fun
5 December, 2018 at 2:06 am #1110276Excuse me ?????? what about magnificent knickers !! How!! Roood !!!
I’m almost tempted to post about tragedy, putting things in boxes, I have done that many times for reasons not debatable, and not anyone else’s business… not in a bad way, just a way to cope when others rely on you, kinda called getting on with it, and not bigging yourself up for doing it ? isn’t that what people just do ? everyday ? I think it’s called putting loved ones before yourself … If You Can … without expecting a medal or a mention, obviously I don’t mean you Nem, just so no wires are crossed lol xx
Crack on Nem , the Box thing is certainly what I have done, some may see it as a bad thing but in my life it helped me cope with tragedy that i was really too young to cope with, years on I am ok with it, still heart breaking, especially looking back and being so young, I am very proud of myself for just coping, ppl who know. know .. and sometimes people who know disregard it if it suits their attack …. but good on you tackling this and doing it openly, tho I do fear you will get the JC experts and the JC cynics !! be brave lol
hope the knickers aint scratchy !! xx
