Ok we despair of our way of life in general for one reason or another, but we are probably (I said probably) the best democratic country in the world due to our smallness and ease to govern, althought that is in no way an endorsement on our way of life and those that lead us.
It seems to me the tighter the country and the bigger the democracy the more we get taxed by stealth. It is staggering to realise we get somewhere around 76% of tax in every pound we spend. Whether it be cigs, beer, car, breathing (yes we do get taxed for breathing), it’s everywhere around us.
So what does our government do with this money because it baffles me. We are no better off in NHS, they still want to tax us out further with cars, alcohol and ciggies… where is this money going?
The NHS say they are woefully short of money, why? We all pay into an NHS fund.
Take one thing on board ok … Shell made an extraordinary billion plus profit last year, one of the bastions of our country. They make about 2p profit at the pump. They make profits elsewhere. The government takes around 50p per litre. How much money are they making and why are they still not channelling the money into the people?
Where are the roads? Where are the hospitals? Where are the schools? Where are the prisons?
They are bailing out 60 plus billion pounds to northern rock and 20 billion plus pounds to upgrade Polaris. But what are the benefits to the tax payer?
We can’t smoke, drink or buy meat anymore, it is being stealth taxed out of us. Not to forget the billions we pay into the EU to help other countries economies. If this is democracy I prefer anarchy.
Seriously, if this is what democracy is about I would rather not have it. Democracy seems to be abuse of people, the people that vote in these Governments are abused by stealth tax.
If any of you live in London and see Ken Livingstones policies you will know where I am coming from. I am well and truly sick of the ‘democracy’ the ‘New Labour’ have given to us, it outstrips anything the Tories did us, but if the Tories got in they wouldn’t reverse it… we are stuck between a rock and a hard place.
If we all go on the jam role the nannified state gets complete control. Stick a hammer and sickle on our flag and everyone within government is happy. Why do we allow this?
I despair.

22 March, 2008 at 4:11 pm #319154And its going to get worse. We are heading for a huge economic slump, and the government are going to have to tax us more and more to pay huge deficits. I am disgusted that the power companies have made such huge profits when they said they had to put the cost of fuel up because it was being charged to them at such high rates. How much of those profits leaves this country because the power we use is supplied by other countries?
The educational system is failing our youngsters, the NHS is failing our elderly, for the first time ever I am thinking of leaving this country which I love.
What is strange is, that at one time, not so long ago, when petrol costs went up, people demonstrated – do you remember the lines of lorries and taxis? When things happened that people didn’t like, they objected. But where are the demonstrations and protesters? Is this a result of the Thatcher years where people became so self absorbed that they no longer cared about anyone?
How long will it be before the predicted riot occurs, and the Angry Mob take over?
22 March, 2008 at 6:12 pm #319155Well I’m at the planning stage of the revolution.
But we have a few problems ……….
The petrol is too expensive for the petrol bombs, so we are looking for a cheaper alternative.
Most people are too fat go run and throw stones at the police, so it will be a “walking battle at a brisk place” and we will be using “mechanical aids” for any “lifting or throwing”
We don’t want to keep people up too late and most people have kids so we are trying to decide on a reasonable start and finish time.
But the decision to turn off the power in the middle of Coronation St and Eastenders has not gone down too well, so we are looking for something boring on TV to launch the start of revolution.
Anyone have any other ideas for the “middle class moaning, talk, talk and do nothing revolution” please let me know.

23 March, 2008 at 6:41 pm #319160We are unfortunately experiencing one of the worst governments ever. NHS and schools declining as they strive to get to the top of league tables. gas and Electricty bills going through the roof, Petrol and diesle forcing people to think about quitting jobs (my job means i HAVE to use the car) Immigration out of control, crime, especially among the youth on the rise. MP’s fiddling more than the London Philamonic. A Prime Minister who thinks we are not clever enough to decide on Europe, and even though every one is against the constitution, signs it under a different name. And now, while we are on about democracy, he may give a free vote on the animal/human embyo bill – but only it is a mathamatical certainty that the vote will go in their favour.
I do not care if Micky Mouse is elected, get these clowns out.23 March, 2008 at 7:31 pm #319161@gaz1960 wrote:
