In the wake of the crisis in the Mideast, Cowboy George thinks it’s important that nothing happens to undermine the Lebanese government. Now call me paranoid, but I get a feeling that Israel bombing the crap out of Lebanon with the Lebanese government seemingly powerless to react might just diminish the standing of that government in the eyes of the Lebanese electorate. So does Cowboy George tell Israel to stop targetting civilians and civilian infrastructure? Of course not, he and his sidekick John Bolton at the UN give Israel the green light to carry on the attacks.
As everyone can see, except for Cowboy George, the situation is deteriorating and something needs to be done to stop the situation escalating once more. However, Georgie boy supports Israel’s aim of trying to disarm and disband Hizbollah. The fact that Israel’s invasion of Lebanon in 1982 led to the creation of Hizbollah and that Israel was actually driven out of Lebanon by Hizbollah doesn’t deter Cowboy George from supporting Israel’s lunatic agenda. He’s determined that Israel should stop those nasty terrorists who go around targetting civilians. The fact that almost 100 Lebanese civilians have been killed in the process and that Israel is mainly targetting civilian buildings doesn’t really bother him. He seems to agree with the Israeli logic that if they impose enough suffering on the Lebanese people then they will call for the death of Hizbollah. It’s much more likely that they’ll be shouting “Death to Israel” but I guess if you don’t buy a ticket you can’t win the lottery. What’s a little gamble when you’re dealing with the fate of millions of people.
At the UN, all but 1 of the 15 nations on the security council criticised both Hizbollah and Israel. Take a wild guess at which ambassador made no mention of the need to avoid civilian casualties in Lebanon. Yes, it was the USA’s John Bolton. Not to be outdone by this idiotic display of hawkishness, our dear leader Tony Blair is trying to ingratiate himself even further with Cowboy George by mimicking US government policy. But to be fair, it’s hard for our beloved leader to assess the facts for himself when his head is currently nestling up G Dubya’s back passage.
Amazingly the voice of reason from the international community is not the USA, it’s not the EU, it’s Russia. This must be a sign that the world is coming to an end.
16 July, 2006 at 8:42 pm #231018I wouldn’t be surprised if Cowboy George has had some very stern words to whisper in the ear of Israel’s prime minister. But to say anything in public would play into the hands of the other party in the dispute, who are not exactly a nice lot!
17 July, 2006 at 8:49 pm #231019No, the US president and the US congress are 100% behind Israel, if they told Israel they had to stop targetting civilian sites then Israel would have stopped already.
18 July, 2006 at 2:22 am #231020This has become a illogixal war because religion is the driving force.
If our leaders, (George Dubya and Tony Blair) weren’t flying the ‘Christian’ banner I’d say bomb the f*cking lot of ’em and send them to their Maker.
But they are, so I don’t!!
18 July, 2006 at 12:07 pm #231021It’s not really about religion it’s about Israel still occupying Arab territory and holding arab prisoners. What I find surprising is that Israel tried to take on Hizbollah before and failed but they think that by doing exactly the same thing all over again there will be a different outcome. I’m also disgusted by the fact that Lebanese civilians are being slaughtered in large numbers but, apart from Russia, China and France, the world’s rich and powerful nations are not being more insistent that Israel should stop targetting civilians. 24 Israelis have been killed and everyone’s harping on about Hizbollah terrorism. What about the 220 Lebanese fatalities? It’s like the EU and US are saying that it’s only terrorism if you speak arabic.
One thing’s for sure, if this conflict goes on and on then the government of prime minister Siniora will certainly collapse.
19 July, 2006 at 12:15 am #231022It’s all about religion! Islamic fundamentalists are hell-bent on promoting Islam worlwide, and bringing about the downfall of the west aka you and I.
