Chris Sutton will make a huge difference Sunny. He might b pushing 33 but he’ll do a great job for another few years.
i’m afraid in scotland hes made to look good, in the prem, hes no more then a fringe reserve player
11 March, 2006 at 7:46 pm #179315It’s a tired old line Soulie that they’re made to look good in Scotland. Plenty of players have “been made to look good in Scotland” and then have proved themselves good in England. Di Canio and Viduka spring to mind.
Sutton has nothing to prove to anyone. He’s maybe a bit past his peak now, but he scored goals against some of the best teams in Europe with Celtic. If ya dont wanna judge him on what he did in Scotland then take a look at his record against some of the top defenders in the world a few years ago.12 March, 2006 at 4:43 am #179316i’m sorry, but fact remains, there are too many weak teams in the scotish league, yeah you have now 4 or 5 teams who are decent, and its coming along
rangers
celtic
hibs
heartsand at a push maybe aberdeen
but playing against the other teams, the defence is poor, and when playing for a top team, you gonna get more chances
its fact the english league is a tougher league, i can only remember sutton having two good seasons in england, one for norwich, and his first with blackburn alongside shearer, hes not gonna down as a legend in england i’m afraid
12 March, 2006 at 12:41 pm #179317Im not gonna argue with ya over whether the Scottish League’s as strong as the English League. Only a fool would do that. Clearly the English League is superior in every way, as you would expect given the size and population differences of England and Scotland.
I would argue that players like Sutton, Lennon, Larsson etc could certainly have cut it in England. They’re a bit past they’re prime now but a few years ago they would have more than held their own. As I’ve said they’re performances in Europe for Celtic over the years shows that to be true, and also Larssons performances for Sweden at international level.12 March, 2006 at 1:05 pm #179318and these are all players who did extremly well in scotland, noted, i was just saying its not often a player from rangers or celtic signs for one of the big teams in the prem, apart from when fergie had a bad day on the booze and bought miller :)
12 March, 2006 at 1:09 pm #179319That’s only a recent thing though. Scottish players used to be the backbone of the top English sides. Every top English side had at least three Scot’s in their team.
12 March, 2006 at 1:09 pm #179320Havent seen sutton have a good game yet and bruce keeps playing him with heskie
And they realy dont play well togther
He is now injured
As for yesterday game i havent seen the back play so weak
At one time baggies had only 1 man on the ball there was a left winger and mid filder and a right bk by him   How i dont f00king no
