always been known to flit from one mad idea to another…must be the gemini in me…but this one has to be the daftest…

just written a stand up comedy set and i’m gonna go do amateur night at the comedy store in manchester the first sunday of october…with a view to eventually doing it as a career…

just wondered if anyone has ever tried anything as daft or has any advice…

wouldn’t say no to any new material I can work with either!

I think I have a big enough ego to pull it off 8)

Glad you’ve got the ego for it Beeker as good stand up is an art form that requires communicatory skills in addition to a funny script. In a previous life I wrote comedy for various shows on the Beeb and was considered amongst the top ten percent amongst my peers. I loved writing gags and sketches..and could sometimes barely write them down as I was rolling about laughing so much. The mark of a good piece of comedy was that it still made me laugh on the fifth or sixth inspection. Better yet..I got to see it performed and payed a cheque for it. The downside was that it was easy to have a lot of work pinched..for every gag I actually got acknowledged/paid for..another was ‘appropriated’ and I eventually couldn’t be @rsed with it anymore..and moved on. I won’t say to what..as it’s very private to me now. As a stand-up..you’ll be out there on your own..it’s a tough gig..and you need to be original. Prepare for your stuff to be mis-appropriated by other comedians..it comes with the territory..just come back with bigger and better. You say you’ve got the ego. Now be sure of your script. Go Knock ’em dead Beeker

thanks for taking the time to write that and I appreciate the comments…just in the process of tweaking it at the moment…it’s mainly observational comedy…with abit of taking the mick out of my welsh heritage

Sorry Pats..haven’t you heard that term before..referring to a previous career?

It was a wee while ago now Geoff..and yes I was good..it’s what I was paid to do. I will happily tell you the things I am crapp at if it makes you feel any better..I was bottom of the class in maths, arithmetic , chemistry, physics and biology. I still struggle to use the computer and have never mastered how to drive a car. I can be incredibly gullible and..yes..I frequently shoot my mouth off without first engaging brain. All of those things Geoff..{and Pats..because it seems wherever Geoff goes..you follow close behind] and probably a few more. I’m sorry if you perceive me as a blowhard as nothing could be farther from the truth. I am an historian..fact. I used to write comedy..fact. This clearly makes you uncomfortable…tough! It’s sad that you feel the need to question my credentials and I’m sure that jealousy could never be the reason..could it Geoff..Pats?

Beeker..once again..I wish you nothing but good luck..more jesters are always a boon on this miserable planet..and if I can ever be of any help..you can find me….

You really are a nasty piece of work aren’t you Guff?

It’s obvious you feel threatened by intelligent women..your spiteful little digs speak volumes for your own inadequacies. That you find it impossible to conceive a person capable of having more than one ability only shows in what a murky, shallow pool you must lurk. You scurry out of it in sorties to spread your venom as a camouflage for your intellectual impotence. Famous ..Guff?why should I be famous? Are you so dense that you are unaware that most of the comedy in this and any country is written by an army of
writers whose names fly past unnoticed in the closing-titles… many of whom have other jobs from welders to doctors to deep-sea-divers? You don’t know what you’re talking about..you stupid jealous troglodyte. You might think your bullying clever..little man..but your anonymity affords you the cloak of a coward. And that’s just what you are!

well geoff i’m happy esmerelda is such a well rounded intelligent woman. me i’m just a simple woman who prefered to stay at home and raise her children. someones gotta do it ehh?

I was judged to be in the top ten percent of comedy writers amongst my peers at that time. It was no big deal..just a fact I simply used this to illustrate to Beeker that I may be of some help.

And what’s with the ‘famous’ obsession? Have you not managed to make it through The X Factor auditions with your rendition of ‘I’m A W@nker’ on the comb-and-paper? Aw shame!

Locked up? Not when shooting’s an option
