Well pete saw it coming a few years back and did nothing.
Now you tell me what would have been cheaper?
Fix the problem 3 years ago and stop the rotten
Or wait for the system to fail and then bail it out?
14 October, 2008 at 6:38 pm #381602Actually DOA I don’t think they could stop the rot, it had gone too far. Also, at that time wasn’t Tony Blair trying to cover his proverbial behind? He wasn’t going to go out with that kind of thing blackening his “blameless” (ho ho) political career, now was he.

and thats why i kinda feel a wee bit sorry for gordon Brown.. he has picked up a tab of a man who could not run a piss up in a brewery,, When Tory Blair was elected we realised there would be a few years hardship after the years of Thatcher and her Uber Alles.
John Smith would have been the better man, but he died. and that little Fettes Educated cretin got in. I dont envy Gordon Brown, as i do think the Tories WILL get in.. ffs ! and there we go on an ever moving cycle… I still think the Labour party have did better than all the years of Croneyism and men in Grey suits.
bring back OLD labour ffs..

We won’t see proper socialism again in our lifetimes Ruby. This lot need a spell in a gulag to tober them up. As for Cameron’s shower..up against a wall for summary execution with the lot of ’em.
14 October, 2008 at 8:28 pm #381605oh i know Esme.. I live in earlier times in my head. and folks MAY laugh at what is a fairly simple approach. but i think WE are the sensible ones. Im glad i was a baby boomer and a bairn of the 60’s .. ironically i could buy and sell most of my peers on here. as well fine YOU could.
Anthony Wedgewood Benn was that man that SHOULD have been. hey ho..

Surely you mean Lord Stansgate who transformed himself into Anthony Wedgewood-Benn and then later on became just Tony Benn, man of the people and working class hero.
Mind you with a millionairess American wife and a lifestyle to match, I guess he could afford his extreme left wing views.

oh defo !!! still rather have a dozen of him than the HUG A HOODIE “dAVES” :)
14 October, 2008 at 10:09 pm #381608Well I’m not so sure Ruby. Thing is that dear old Tony spent many years bleating on about how much he supported the ”workers” and how we all had to make sacrifices etc – when in fact he went back to his mansion and wealthy lifestyle afterwards leaving the ”workers” (and his commie fellow travellers) to wallow in their poverty.
I also intensely disliked his oh so smug reminiscences, in his later years, making tape recordings of the minutae of his endless meetings, with his affectation of the mug of (working class) tea in one hand and his pipe in the other.
A typical champagne Socialist.
