So what did we think? Personally, I felt it didn’t live up to the hype and it never really got going until the second half. And even then it wasn’t much of a spectacle. I thought the ref did well to keep the game going as best he could.
Interesting to hear Ancelloti saying that it has ‘restored credibility’ to Italian football. Aye, and Milan had nothing to do with it did they? It was all down to the other clubs and it was up to Milan to save their tarnished reputation. Brings a tear to the eye
It hasn’t restored anything, Milan (although I’m glad they won it due to ex-Ger Gattuso being in their ranks) shouldn’t have been in the competition anyway. All this shows is that the big boys can break the rules and come up smelling of roses.
24 May, 2007 at 4:48 pm #271559It wasn’t a bad game, certainly not as dire as the FA Cup final. Liverpool played the better of the two but missed the killer punch. Milan bided their time and took their chances well.
The credibilty of Italian clubs will need more than one Champions League win after the debacle of the match fixing in Italy.
As for Gattuso… over-rated springs to mind.
24 May, 2007 at 5:40 pm #271560Maybe so, but we Rangers fans will always have fond memories of a young Rino snarling and tackling his way through all that stood before him! Now, he seems to have lost that edge.
Let’s just hope the Scottish Cup Final can show the ‘superstars’ what a final is all about!
24 May, 2007 at 7:56 pm #271561Milan were very poor i thought, liverpool controlled the game and were unlucky to go 1-0 down, but thats the italians for you, you need to turn your possession into chances then into goals though, not sure of the liverpool tactics though, against an ageing defence, quailty as they are, the pace of bellemy might have caused more problems
24 May, 2007 at 8:07 pm #271562We gave them too much respect & underestimated our own ability.

Gattuso hasnt lost that edge, or his snarling and tackling.
I would say he’s one of the best, if not the best in the world at what he does.25 May, 2007 at 8:24 am #271564@Bad Manners wrote:

I would say he’s one of the best, if not the best in the world at what he does.agreed, he had a bad game on wednesday, i’ve seen his performances for italy, nothing short of fantastic… would love him in my team
25 May, 2007 at 5:42 pm #271565I’m not knocking Rino! I’d have him back at Rangers in a flash! It’s just that in recent games that I’ve seen, he hasn’t looked like the player he can be and is.
The fact that he still speaks highly of his time in Scotland Walter Smith tells me that he hasn’t got too big for his boots either.
