Many still believe that THE only true way to enjoy a movie is on the Big Screen…
Would you agree? Or has the advent of DVD and similar technologies heightened the whole Home experience?
Do factors such as… expense, the impersonality of multi-plexes, irritating ppl crunching and munching beside you, the general gambit of going to the trouble when too vast a percentage of films nowadays are rubbish… mitigate heavily?
Would it take a true EVENT film to coax you from your couch?
26 July, 2006 at 7:57 pm #232617I rarely go to the cinema of my own accord – mainly if the kids want to see something. The cost is a disgrace and I begrudge paying £7 to see a kids movie when it is clear I am only there to protect (and control!) my kids. If they let adults in free for kids films I think more people would go along. Does anyone think that going with the kids to watch ANY film at the cinema provides a ‘Value for Money’ experience?
I also dislike unaccompanied teens/kids misbehaving and talking/phoning etc during films but this probably goes back to the parents not wanting (or able) to pay to go in with them. If we do have to pay their rip-off prices then the cinema should at least ensure the place is monitored – when is the last time you saw an usher’s torch heading towards unruly kids?
With entry, snacks and parking to pay for, it costs the best part of £40 for me and two kids to have the ‘big screen experience’ – invariably to watch a load of shyte. We could get a Chinese carry-out and a whole weekend’s worth of rented DVD’s for that price.
Telly’s are bigger, screen and sound quality is better and DVD’s are out earlier too.
Hmm, this turned into a rant Sarge, sorry :x
26 July, 2006 at 10:28 pm #232618sorry sarge i have to agree with james whole heartedly on this one. took my daughter to see the goblet of fire, had to endure a group of about 7 teenagers pratting about , screasming and shouting thru the aisles and changin seats every 5 minutes….gggrrrr…, until i got so fed up i got up and shouted at them to shut up or get out. they did quiten down, but i did feel a bit on edge when i left in case they were waiting for me lol. besides that it cost me 14 quid for us to get in then another 12 quid for cr*p and drinks !! we have dvd girlie nights now where we make our own pizza n popcorn and i can get pished   :P

27 July, 2006 at 12:43 pm #232620DVD – cos if I fall asleep, which i invariably do due to my distinctly terrible concentration span, I can rewind!!! I can also nip upstairs for a quick shag if the urge takes me, something which is a tad difficult nowadays in the cinema as the seats are a lot smaller than they used to be – or is my @rse just getting bigger??!!
27 July, 2006 at 7:17 pm #232621What have you got upstairs Gyps????? You got a man hidden in the wardrobe up there?
27 July, 2006 at 7:45 pm #232622When I saw The Davinci Code at the cinema I found it an amazing experience, the sound was superb and I really enjoyed watching it on a big screen. I’ve recently been to see Over The Hedge with my kids, I agree the cinema is costly but our one does a cheap rate on a Tuesday for kids and my son goes free because he is under 3 so it’s not too bad. I try to take them during the summer months as its nice and cool and not too busy, fortunately I have not yet encountered any obnoxious teenager’s !
28 July, 2006 at 1:07 am #232623My husband and his friends built a Cinema in our basement about 2 years. It’s cool having a big screen to watch movies on just down the stairs, but I miss going to the theater. Last movie I saw in a theater was Kill Bill II. How Pathetic is that? I think maybe my husband watched too many episodes of MTV’s CRIBS –
28 July, 2006 at 1:31 am #232624The last film I watched at the cinema was Batman Begins (awesome). I intend to go see the new Superman film at the cinema too.
Films requiring suspension of reality ought to be seen on the big screen.
I take my own bottle of water to the cinema, and my own giant bag of Butterkist popcorn.
Cinema drinks and snacks are overpriced, and their popcorn has slightly more flavour than the bucket it’s served in.29 July, 2006 at 9:00 am #232625DVD…I like that privacy 8)
