Here is a fun way to while away Christmas and baffle all those around you.

For any computer that has Microsoft Word (any version) installed on it … here is what you do.

Open a new Word (blank) document. On the top of the screen click on ”Tools”.

On the ”Tools” drop down menu, look for ”Auto correct options” and click on it.

The Auto correct options box will now open.

At the bottom third there is a list of commonly misspelt words that Microsoft Word recognises and alongside is the corrected version – from its stored memory- which it automatically inserts in place of the misspelt word.

In the left hand box entitled ”Replace” …. type the word ”the”

In the right hand box entitled ”With” …. type the words ”the fucking”

Close the document to save this addition to Auto correct. From now on in, EVERY time any user in any Word document types the word ”the” (as in ‘the car’ or whatever) Word will replace it with ”the fucking” (as in ‘the fucking car’).

They will never figure out how you did it and you can persuade them that there is a vulgar virus etc etc on the computer. You can have hours of fun tormenting geeky kids or terrorising grannies with this one.

For that extra frisson of anguish try altering ”a” to …… (I’ll leave it up to you to decide) or better still have Word alter the person’s name to something totally different – again I’ll leave it up to your sense of humour.

Yeah .. I think I did. But it’s a helluva great wheeze to try out in the office. Just imagine the MD’s secretary typing out ”Mr ******* would like to wish all the staff a Happy Christmas and ….” and so on.

Doesn’t bear thinking about does it?

    Well,

I fell for it PB, followed the instruction to the letter. Damn good wheeze eh. Thought about the fun I’d have at work after the holidays and all those other opportunities with friends and families…………………………………….and then realised I didn’t know how to change it back………………………………………ffs. Tried many things to revert back to default but because my Word disk is at work I’m stuck.

I throw myself at your mercy, please divulge the secret step through which will enable me to use Word over the Christmas holiday the only way I can continue is to delete the offending words after they have been used.
This is a case where “Christmas practical joke (or how to torment geeks)” has really caught me out. Well done.

    Have Mercy.
Just in case PB is away for the break or is laffin so much he can’t answer any help from others will be most gratefully accepted.

Well Langstraat, because it is you and because it is Christmas and because I am feeling charitable………… !

To reverse the Autocorrect option you have set…..

Go into Tools, and then Autocorrect options as before. In the Autocorrect options box that opens, scroll down the list of entries that Microsoft Word will automatically correct until you come to ”the” with its vulgar correction. (There is a huge list of them, so you may find it quicker to drag the slider down rather than wait for it to scroll).

Highlight the word ”the” in the left hand box and press/click ”Delete”. Word will then remove the word ”the” from its list of so-called wrongly spelt words to look for, as well as removing the substituted words that you previously entered.

Voila … you are back where you started.

BTW you can also add a phrase in the substitute box if you want to have some additional fun. For example if the smartarse little geek in your home that thinks they know everything about computers is named ”Fred” (or whatever) then add the word ”Fred” to the autocorrect options. Then in the substitute box add the phrase ”Fred is a fat spotty geek” (or whatever particular insult takes your fancy).

All you need do is to spiv them into typing their name at the end of a short letter in MS Word for example, and …. presto, Word will tell them the truth about themselves.

This can be especially effective for some Yuletide abuse in the workplace !!!

    Enjoy !

    Yo PB,

    Never expected you to answer so quickly and without having further fun at my expense;
I’m not sure whether i could have resisted dragging it out for a few days. :P
Guess you’ve just done what a forum host should do eh; looked after the members interest like a guardian angel (excuse while I’m sick) Now I know that others may think that PB stands for something to do with the job but I admit to thinking about you when I inadvertently put Eastenders on and see Pat Butcher.
    Whatever.
    Have a good one.

Well I can’t deny that I was tempted … in fact very tempted indeed. But it is Christmas and this was meant to be a practical joke that you could play on others rather than an attempt to stuff up your own computer.

Anyway …… do let everybody know what inventive substitutions you have made (or could make) misusing ‘AutoCorrect’.

    lmao
    i like it =D> nice one :)
