13 April, 2008 at 10:03 pm #325427Oh the joys (and pains) of childbirth…
1st time scared the hell out of me… 6 weeks early. 18 hours. They tried to give me an epidural but everytime they tried to put the needle in my back my right leg kept kicking out… I had my mum and Dave with me for support too. The aneasthatist got in a bit of a strop and shouted “sit still”.. so I shouted “Im fucking trying”.. my mum went “SHARON!!!!!!” all embarrased at me lol. Then the moment came and the pain went. Then they took him to special care as he was 4lb 12oz, and I cried myself unconcious.
2nd time I thought… Im gonna give this gas and air a damn good go this time, as my breathing was terrible 1st time. So sucked away on that and it gave me this wierd tingling/pins and needles feeling all around my mouth… Dave said I turned to him and shouted “get it off my lip”.. he laughed and said “what… there’s nothing there”..
Then I had Dave’s head in an armlock at the side of the bed, and the nurse started to put the bed up in height.. Dave nearly lifted off the floor… ffs it was soooo funny lmao.
Then I gave birth and said “oh…. its a baaaaabyyyy”… discharged myself 6 hours later as it was very near Christmas. Slept all night in my own bed like a log and Dave bonded with baby.
Great memories… real miracles 8)

When my sons partner rang me and told me on the Tuesday morning that she’d decided on a home birth I thought, in honesty,,,,,,OMFG!!,,,,knowing her pain threshhold wasn’t so hot I thought it just wasn’t going to work.
During the Tuesday afternoon and evening though, I was back and forth from her place to mine, (they only live round the corner to me),,,,,,I came home at around 8pm for something to eat and to have a rest. I slept for a while, went back around 1am……at 3am,,,,,I drove to the local hospital to get more entinox for her,,,,,she was running out,,,,,poor lil cow ended up going around 40 minutes with nothing, and in strong labour, first time hospital had given me wrong thing, oxygen instead of entinox, so back I went again,,,,,,I think I broke all land speed records lol,,,,,went through every red light thinking oh hell, if I get stopped they’ll understand i’m sure lol, I might even get an escort lol.
I got back anyway with the entinox, she had couple of puffs and started to push, and our little Logan Elizabeth was delivered, 3.42, 20th February, and not that i’m biased you understand, but she’s gorgeous lol.
As for Jo, from thinking that she wouldn’t cope, having a home delivery, with the pain n everything, I couldn’t have been more proud of her, she was amazing. :)
