I used to have a terrible fear of snakes like most.

Years ago I went to a small circus and they brought  a massive one round for people to stroke. I declined. A few minutes later they asked for a volunteer to have it put around their shoulders. I looked at the floor – obviously not wanting to make eye contact with the handler.

Before I knew it he was by my side announcing they had a volunteer. When I said no, he asked for the audience to give me a round of applause for doing it. I was with my 7 year old step son who looked quite excited, so I felt I had no choice but to do it as I didn’t want to let him down.

And actually, it was ok. I expected it to be cold and nasty and it wasn’t.

Must admit, they haven’t bothered me since (not that I come across many!).

I’d rather have a snake than a spider any day….

I’m not scared of snakes, its their eating habbits I don’t like. Something about feeding them whole mice / rats just makes my skin crawl.

Don’t see the attraction to spiders as pets, but each to their own. I came across a little boy some time ago (he was 6 yrs old, his parents are South American but he was born here), I remember him telling me he loved spiders. I’m wondering if it’s a trend or something a bit deeper? And here’s someone who allowed a manky pigeon to share her bedroom. Don’t read too much into it Blossom , we are looking after it for a local school. Small children are happy to handle creepy-crawlies in the garden and find them fascinating, but become scared of them as they get older. If children are picking up their parents fear of insects, then it will take at least a generation to change attitudes. I am doing a small part in helping them.

Lmao @ manky pigeon. If this looks like a manky pigeon to you

Wild pigeons, I don’t see why pet ones would.

My daughter liked that part the best; in fact, she mimicked the mouse squeals for days afterwards!

So would you if you lived in unhygienic conditions.

Pigeon was injured (broken wing), hence it couldn’t fly.

Lived in a clean enviroment, vaccinated, well fed.

I assume that people probably breed them, the people that race them and such.

God do I shiver when I see a spider.I don’t kill them or anything, just get hubby to put them outside. No problem with snakes, but I cant stand eel,s for some reason.Think its because when I was a kid, the boys used to catch razor eel,s’ was always scared they would cut my fingers.
