I have met David Beckham in the Trafford Centre, when we were out with my granddaughter who was under a year old at the time. David had his pic taken holding the baby and was concerned that she was safely strapped in her buggy afterwards. Lovely guy.

On holiday in Tenerife Nigel Benn was staying on the same complex as us, having given up his hotel suite to Frank Bruno. We were invited to watch them sparring. Nigel was lovely, friendly, funny and down to earth. Frank didnt speak at all and wasnt interested in the people watching. It was just before he fought Tyson though so maybe he was terified. I would have been lol.

I have also seen several Corrie characters out and about in Manchester. I don’t watch Corrie now so I may have seen others and not recognised them.

Best of all we met Neil Sedaka in Manchester, and he played some of his best known songs after the show ‘Laughter in the Rain’. He didn’t want to get off the stage. He obviously loves singing.

During the 80s I was visiting some friends who had a band and were in studio recording a demo.

There was a young woman sitting waiting too and I started chatting with her. The usual niceties elicited that her name was Grace, she knew the singer, she was a singer herself.

“Oh that’s great!” Says I “you should cut a demo, good luck!”

I had missed my mate’s frantic hand signals as he was just out of my eyeline. But a few days later I realised I should pay more attention when I watch TV:

I think I may have mentioned this briefly before… if I have forgive me (dont mean to be boring)

I met and played backgammon regularly online with Kirsty MacColl before she died. Kirsty was a keen backgammon player ….like myself. We both played tournaments and whilst waiting for our next game we would chat. Kirsty actually taught backgammon before she was famous… and it funded her to some extent. She told me about happy times teaching the game to The Pogues… David Bowie and Mic Jagger(to name just a few) … killing time at recording studios and gigs. Her online name was Celestina… she had a great sense of humour and I miss her so much… my last conversation with her was to wish her Merry Christmas and a happy holiday… she was killed on that holiday… so sad.

At her funeral service her love of backgammon was mentioned and her sons thanked her online friends for the happy hours she spent playing the tournaments

I just know she is playing Backgammon in heaven….RIP Celestina

The real name of the film star Rita Hayworth was Violet Pretty from Merseyside and once one the Miss New Brightont Contest.

My gran was a woman who said what she thought and stood no nonsense . One day, in a tiny little shop in OMeath in Co. Louth she was standing in the queue when a large black car pulled up outside. A man in a long fur coat bustled in to the shop and went straight to the front of the Queue and demanded to be served. My gran pointed out, in a very reasonable voice, that there was a queue and he should wait. He said, in a very arrogant manner, that he could not wait because his wife ” The famous actress,Rita Hayworth” was waiting for him in his car. My gran then informed him, in the same reasonable voice, ” Yes, well, I knew her when she was Violet Pretty, so she can just wait, Now get to the back of the queue!”. He left.

I swear this is true, I was in the shop and about 8 at the time :D
