1 February, 2009 at 7:01 pm #389657Tic as you know I work in HR… we have various Codes of Practice which determines where we can and cannot recruit from… some countries are protected because the skill mix isnt great enough to take away from the country.
My views – same should be applied here.
Now can I go back to eating my dinner and you can stop nagging me now??? lol
1 February, 2009 at 7:06 pm #389658the new european laws say anyone can tender for the jobs , but when ie an italian firm wins the contract they are free to employ who they wish , this is what we want changed and hope and believe by next week it will be

You have me confused- in the first post you state
“oil refinerys and power stations across uk are refusing point blank to give jobs to british ppl , in fact they have said if ur british dont apply”
In the second post, you advise
“the new european laws say anyone can tender for the jobs”
Either British companies can tender or they can’t?
Foreign companies have been working in the UK as long as I can remember (Nissan, Honda, Toyota come to mind but there are thousands of companies) so the issue of foreign companies isnt the issue.
Foreign workers being used by foreign companies in the UK – is that by discriminating against British workers or because British workers arent avaiable/willing to work for peanuts?
I live in Lincolnshire- this summer we will have approx 25,000 foreign workers on the land and in the fields, working 12 hour days in the horticulural and agricultural sector? Why foreign workers? Because virtually no one else will take the jobs- Lincolnshire’s unemployment problem could be solved (at least each summer) if anyone without a job was told to work the land!
Is that what this is actually about then? Foreign workers working in the UK?
1 February, 2009 at 8:24 pm #389660what i said was any firm can tender for contracts , law , but once awarded , they can emloy who they want to , and u shud know , in lincs , oil refinerys at immingham , italian firms arent takin on any british , 20 miles down the road skilled workers on the dole ( grimsby ) and new power station being built in stafford , french firm , say they arent employing british , and yes it is all because they will work for cheaper , not the workers fault , no blame there , i respect them , but is it not degrading to british workers to be told they arent gettin any of the jobs at these places
1 February, 2009 at 11:18 pm #389661I think if a foreign firm already has its own employees it’s OK to send them over to do jobs here if it’s short-term. On the other hand, if they need to recruit people for such a contract, they should recruit local to the job.
1 February, 2009 at 11:26 pm #389662I think I understand but it sounds no different than firms which for years have worked in places like Saudi, Qatar etc and employed British workers and took them over.
I agree it must be very annoying for British firms to sub contract to european companies who then in turn bring over their own workers but isnt that what a free market economy is all about- competitiveness?
5 February, 2009 at 6:19 pm #389663Most come here to earn more money than they do back home so why the feck are we going to go to their country and earn less than we do here.
Problem is the British will use and buy whatever is cheapest. We then wonder why british industry is going down the toilet !5 February, 2009 at 6:26 pm #389664Earn more money and do better jobs than English workers
5 February, 2009 at 7:57 pm #389665Shouldn’t companies be able to just choose the best people for the job, regardless of their nationality?
