Yep pretty much said the same thing !!

    Democracy ? What a laugh ….

Actually, May has done her best trying to do the impossible. Nobody want to end in the brexit mess we’re in, and to call it a conspiracy just doesn’t wash.

She’s been trying to leave the EU and avoid a hard border in Ireland, and it’s proving impossible. The result is to leave the UK tied to  the EU for an indefiniete period in practice, paying into the EU and accepting free movement of labour.

The EU are the toughest negotiating team in the world 9against a very weak British negotiating team, with the exception of Olly Robbins), and they haven’t had to chance to show what they’re made of until the last couple of months because May has been wasting all her time on general elections and Tory in-fighting.

One EU diplomat said that it’s going to be brutal, ruthless, and it’s proving to be just the start. They have fishing next i their sights, and then the money the UK continues to pay the EU, and then the trade deal. At each stage, they’re threatening  to cause major disruption to the UK economy unless their demands are met. This show is set to keep going.

Did you expect them to be nice, kind, maybe give us money to help us along while we wound them deeply (and ourselves) by leaving. You think Trump is going to be nice and kind and sacrifice US interests for the benefit of the UK???

A referendum is becoming increasingly likely, as I’ve been saying for some time. Get read for a rough time in the country, though I’m sure JC’s kindly citizens wioll conduct themselves like gentlemen (and ladies) :-(

May has been wasting all her time on general elections and Tory in-fighting.

Yes, instead of the most important thing to have happened to our “democracy” in many a year.

Does she not have the power to hire and fire?  She should have kicked arse then?  She should have kicked arse long ago instead of leaving it to the last second. Unless the panic it is now causing was her plan to get exactly what she want, the auld goat.

Reason, I really can’t see how she’s been planning all this. The vote on the 11th, or maybe a second vote later on, could well end her period in office.

She genuinely thinks it’s the best deal, given the strength of an angry EU.

I really can’t see how any other Brexiteer could do it better, short of a catastrophic No Deal, which may happen anyway!

Hang on… not so long ago you said they weren’t bullying us and in fact that they were ‘bending over backwards’ to help us get a good deal ?

I don’t think it is a conspiracy, I do think she did the best she could under impossible circumstances, I just wish she’d played hard ball a bit more. They were rude, ignorant, and bullying.

That’s right, though I don’t think I put it as getting us a good deal??

They were trying to bend over backwards to find an accommodation over the Irish border, accepting that checks could be made within the English mainland. This was rejected by the DUP.

I was making the point that they would dearly love to bully us, but we were doing a really good job ourselves.

Britain has a long history of bullying Ireland, and now Ireland is in a position of strength within the EU where she can stand up to us Brits.

The real bullying begins after Brexit day, and it’s going to last quite a long time.

Come on,. you didn’t really think they were going to send us off with a coffee cake complete with cherries? We’re hurting them as much as we’re hurting ourselves by leaving.

It’s easy to talk of May playing hardball – she doesn’t have a majority.

Scep, I’m sure she’ll survive when her stay in office comes to an end, unlike a lot of people’s faith in our so called democracy.

There is not a cat in hells chance of a no deal brexit, and you know it. If anyone thinks there will be I’d be more than willing to take even money that there won’t be.

    #1110141

    @ Reason,

Well, I doubt there will be  a no-deal, but

we could walk into it by default.

If parliament rejects may’s deal, there will be an attempt to get an election by Labour. No chance! The Fixed Term Parliaments act make that very difficult, and the MPs aren’t going to vote for Christmas.

A referendum is more likely – eventually – for one simple reason. If parliament can’t agree on how to proceed, then they must return to the people for instructions.

But if they  can’t agree on a referendum – and it would be an admission of terrible failure on the part of most of them, then we could drift into No Deal.

The EU have made it clear that they won’t agree to an extension of Article 50 to  postpone Brexit Day and allow more time, and they won’t re-negot5iate any major changes. They’ve let it be known privately, apparently, that they’ll agree to an extension of Article 50 if a referendum or an election were held.

One thing I agree with both you and mooosey – there will be a big dent in faith in democracy from either or both sides, whatever happens. Not good news.

In the event of a no-deal brexit catastrophe –

Image may contain: 8 people, people smiling, crowd and outdoor

yes i’d give them the same humane treatment they give immigrants foxes and badgers
