“Bootle is one of the right-wing market economists ”
Personally I have never heard of him and had to rely on Google, both the Independent and the Guardian, both bastions of right wing extremism, give the book a good review and the label “right wing” doesn’t actually mean anything without evidence to support it, does it.
You could just as easily argue the neoliberal corporate driven EU cartel with its fanatical commitment to the rule of market forces, privatisation and the rolling back of the power of national governments is ‘right wing’.

Scotland will leave
Enjoy your legacy
21 November, 2018 at 7:07 pm #1109586well, Paigey, that’s the danger, one of many ignored by these betrayed brexi-bigots.
There is a real chance that you may not need your irish passport to escape the joys of living in Brexit Britain, though *fingers crossed

Minford was one of the masterminds of Thatcherism, which is why I call him right-wing. Silly, biassed me. maybe Thatcher was wrong and she was left-wing really. Does it matter? Minford brought the same free market principles which inspired Thatcher to bear on his ‘masterly analysis of Britain being 6.8% better off in leaving.
We’re sure gonna be in the money when we (eventually, whenever) leave, if he’s right.
we can all make whoopee, hey? Champagne bottles at the ready? Waheeeeeey!!!

Who cares !!
21 November, 2018 at 7:59 pm #1109594Bootle is a highly successful , highly acclaimed free trade economist and author. It’s nothing to do with Maggie ! Stop trying to twist everything in yet another direction ! Scaremongering , it’s quite pathetic !

More emotive gibberish and totally out of context, a connection where there is none, it means nothing. While terminally people were being sanctioned on their death beds there was not a peep from the “we’re in the money man”. 10 years of ideological austerity and on economic onslaught on the most vulnerable in our society and not a single line written by it, now all these fake crocodile tears.
It can’t provide single shred of evidence of Bootle being further to the “right” (whatever that means) than the European Central Bank. It just makes it up as it goes along.

21 November, 2018 at 10:36 pm #1109609The EU bot assumes he can willy nilly brand anyone who has a differing viewpoint to him as “right wing” in context of Brexit but the FACTS just don’t support him, or his neoliberal agenda, he is NOT left wing and the EU is NOT left wing, both are centre right. The negotiated deal with the EU by Theresa May’s regime should sit quite happily with what the EU bot has been arguing for on these boards over the past two years + and more so than those who voted Brexit. The EU bot is more Maybot than the actual May is.
1/3 of labour supporters voted Brexit. 80% of labour held constituencies voted Brexit in what would be considered traditional labour strongholds. No one voted Lib Dem in the 2015 election based on their referendum pledge to hold another one. Both labour and tory politicians in marginal Brexit seats will NOT risk their jobs in enough numbers to overturn Brexit. It is NOT going to happen, the EU bot keeps warning what the tories are going to do with the economy and my advice to him is this! STOP voting tory or lib dem and vote labour.
21 November, 2018 at 11:55 pm #1109613Economists are, by the nature of the job, going to be seen as leaning to the political right, ( not socially right wing which is where scep gets confused) especially if they advocate Free Trade
I know !! lets have a chat with a left wing economist eh ?
Someone go dig Karl Marx up !!!
