Okay Im going all “arty” and starting me very own thread in the posh seats of good ol JC.
I love the British Film industry, and recent works like Made in England etc are to be commended, but Pinewood Studio’s is still churning out movies since it started 75 years ago… 75 years!! (most recently the latest of the Jason Bourne films). How many films could you fit into that?! Its an amazing record, so I would love to hear what your favorite British movies are from right back when you were little, or that your parents got you to watch etc, from all over the British Isles.
Please add not just your feelings about the story, but what you know about the making of it, any funny stories that you may have heard that you would like to share.
And youtube links to best parts etc would be most welcome! with an accompanied description of what the link is…. not mentioning names pete (just jesting hun)
I declare this thread open…. cue camera…. roll tape…… and ….. ACTION 8)
5 August, 2008 at 11:57 pm #360036I love Norman Wisdom films.
On The Beat was made in 1962 .Nprman wants to be a copper like his dad but he is too short.
However if he agrees to mimic a lookalike villain to help the police get their man he will get a chance to join the force. This clip above has me in stitches.

It’s the gayishness of the police officers that cracked me up sharon.
Norm is definitely a legend as you rightly say. :wink:6 August, 2008 at 12:12 am #360039Ok its gotta be done…. from one living legend to another

6 August, 2008 at 12:40 am #360040Oh memories.. We used to get cooking on Tuesday mornings at school. and tuesday afternoon me and Elaine Watson would Plunk ( bunk off) to sit in her house and watch old Ealing Comedies on her telly, whilst eating what we had prepared earlier in the kitchens ! Every tuesday .. there we were, fresh made shortie biscuits, 10 fags and a passport to Pimlico,, howling with laughter.
If we agreed we didnt want what culinary delight we had made, we would bunce up for 4 birds eye burgers, and pretend we were in the Wimpey !6 August, 2008 at 12:42 am #360041This is only a very short clip, but I love it. There are plenty more longer ones on there if you search
Gregorys Girl filmed at a school in Cumbernauld in 1980, such a cool movie 8)
6 August, 2008 at 12:49 am #360042The Battle of Britain. Im still amazed when I walk around North Weald market of a weekend avoiding all the crap sold there, that some of the scenes in this amazing blockbuster were filmed there.
Its one of my alltime favorite war films, and was apparantly VERY expensive to make.
I didnt know that the German parts (not sure if it was all of them or not) were filmed with the actors speaking in their native tongue and then dubbed over! Thats my learnt something new today bit done.
