How to deal with a football team who can’t defend/won’t defend. They’re 1 – 0 down, still they give the opposition plenty of room. Almost taunting them to “show us what you’ve got”.
Then they step up a gear, turn on the Brazilian magic and they win the match! It wasn’t a top-drawer performance from Brazil, but they’ve improved every game. 8)
I’m glad I’m not Italian. 8-[More here.
Congratulations to the Socceroos! 8)

Yes indeed – this was truly the game of the tournament so far. Absolutely fantastic game with drama, tension and character throughout. What a shame this pivotal match was moved to the backburner and the BBC broadcast the Brazil game instead.
EDIT
When I say character, I mean Australia – not the cheating Croatians who appeared to think they were playing rugby on many occasions.

22 June, 2006 at 9:58 pm #227648I would have watched the Australia – Croatia game had I had the choice.
I had to laugh at the Croation player leaving the field clutching a Australian shirt, grinning as though he’d acquired the Crown Jewels.

I watched the Oz-Croatia game. The green and gold well deserved their passage through. As the evil Hoffhead says, the Croatians were filthy. Graham Poll didn’t come out of the whole thing very well, though. It seems he yellow carded the same Croatian three times before eventually sending him off.
That’ll be him getting his coat, then. Why did we send Poll? He’s plenty useless in the Premiership without inflicting him on t’whole world.
22 June, 2006 at 10:42 pm #227650I think the English Ref was one of the candidates to take the final. No chance of that now!
I think Italy-Australia will one of the top matches of the last 16. I fancy Italy, but I certainly wouldent bet against the Aussie’s.

I meant to say, I’m looking forward to The Black Star Boys giving Brazil a run for their money! 8)22 June, 2006 at 11:11 pm #227652I flicked back and forth between the two games but quickly settled on the Australia game – glad i did, they were really good value for that result. The referee was a complete tit – lost the place altogether, got almost every major decision wrong and generally gave nothing to Australia at all – even more pleasing they got through then! I did tip Australia as my outsiders and I can see them going further if they play like that again (as long as that bottling goalie is left on the bench).
