then you don’t know.
I’m sorry.
I didn’t know what had happened to my friends, but fear the worst given the torture and executions meted out on a large scale to secular oppositonists like them in Iran at that time.
19 April, 2018 at 10:14 am #1093644Explain the relevance of what you’re saying without making it up to show why you support bombings, or shut up.
Where have I supported any bombings? Depending on the situation I think we all support bombings. I would say it’s more a case of supporting NATO, and the UK Government, and any decision it makes rather than supporting individual bombing raids. Some I would support, some I wouldn’t.
Rather than engaging in fantasies about George V carving up the Middle East in 1917 or quibbling about Iran’s role by pointing to their importance at the time of Alexander the Great…
wouldn’t it have helped discussion along if you had focussed on why you supported this particular bombing??
Had to be said.

I think you’ll find I made my views on this specific bombing quite clear in the very first post I made on this thread, You will not find anything I wrote that openly supports the bombings. The opposite, that post, even though you may not read it so, is geared at diffusing the situation.
That was before we digressed into the relevant background debates, and your insults x
And your and Ge’s failure to rip apart everything I wrote x
Hope you all have a lovely weekend x

20 April, 2018 at 10:45 am #1093669Your first post was a horrible, inflammatory post – not one part of it said you opposed the bombing. On the contrary, y9u said it was a good warning to Russia, and appeared to be calling for a real all-out war.
I took it seriously, but anyone who calls for all-out war is asking for it.
It’s not a football game where you ‘take people apart’ – not in my eyes.
I’m interested in discussion, and the only real insult I gave was over the supercilious comment you made to paigey about er experience of the bomb at Manchester. I asked you to explain your remarks in the light of the bombing experience you claim to have had and you didn’t.
I can’t take apart fantasies about George V and the Persian Empire anyway. I just refuse to waste my time on them as you elaborate to your heart’s content, confident that you are establishing supremacy in the football field.
Dream on.
20 April, 2018 at 11:39 am #1093678Like I said to Ge, or was it you before in this thread, it was one of you anyway, you can’t process what you read.
that post, even though you may not read it so, is geared at diffusing the situation.
20 April, 2018 at 11:47 am #1093680Sceptical just ignore the attention seeker Alfie. It has already publicly stated it was trolling rather than responding to the subject.
20 April, 2018 at 1:20 pm #1093682Yup. He thinks he’s dribbling a football through the opposing team rather than clarifying a discussion.
If he had started clearly that he had opposed the bombing at the start, and nobody reading that first post of his (on p.2 I think) would ever think that, then the discussion could have avoided a lot of very odd detours.
Alfie 1 – Discussion nil
20 April, 2018 at 1:47 pm #1093684If he had started clearly that he had opposed the bombing at the start,
I don’t oppose the bombing, which doesn’t necessarily mean I support it either. I’m somewhere undecided at the moment. Diffusing the situation is perhaps more important that discussing the rights and wrongs of it.
But I do support NATO and the UK Government, and the USA and French Governments.

Well, that’s about as clear as mud.
But at least if you had said that at the start the discussion would have been more productive.
As it is, Gerry and Paige made good points imho, and Mooosey gave an interesting if allusive personal account of the impact of the war, despite her other comments.
