Should people on the bnp member’s list get sack from their jobs.
Personally I say no, I don’t care what party someone belongs to or what they do for a living as long as they can do the job. I don’t really want a left wing lentil munching sandal wearing tree hugging ” every time you breath out a polar bear has to eat his young baby” brigade. But that’s life so why should someone lose their job because of an illegally obtained document.
19 November, 2008 at 6:44 pm #387261As much as I dislike the BNP and what they represent, they are a ‘legitimate’ and legal political party – therefore I would agree with you; their members shouldn’t be sacked from their jobs.
19 November, 2008 at 8:08 pm #387262I heard about this on the BBC Today programme this-morning.
19 November, 2008 at 8:24 pm #387263Just a quick note – please do not link to the BNP list on Just Chat. We do not want to promote the sharing of private, confidential information.
Thanks.

19 November, 2008 at 9:51 pm #387265LOL Pete!
Believe it or not I believe there is someone with the same name as me on the list. That being said they don’t live anywhere near me (luckily). That raises another issue though – possible mistaken identities.
19 November, 2008 at 10:30 pm #387266Why would anyone be afraid of being identified as a member of a legal british political party?
Don’t see what the fuss is :?
19 November, 2008 at 10:44 pm #387267At the moment the BNP is a legal political party. I don’t support them, but people should have the same right to belong to the BNP as to other extremist parties like the Socialist Workers’ Party, Sinn Feinn etc.
However I would support legislation to ban publicly constituted political parties that stand in national or local elections from expressing certain views. Among things they would not ba allowed to promote would be racism and nationalism. Political parties should have to adhere to the view of a fair, united Britain for all its people. Unfortunately the name ‘British National Party’ expresses just that sentiment while it seeks to do the opposite.
In effect, seeking to deny equal rights of all British citizens or questioning territorial integrity of our nation should be off-limits. However calling for abolition of the monarchy should be permitted.
20 November, 2008 at 12:34 am #387268Problem is Bas that legislating to make illegal a legitimate political party’s views on certain subjects is the thin end of a big fat wedge,
Take your comment about the abolition of the monarchy as an example. You may well feel that this is a reasonable political aim and if you founded a political party with this as its central theme, as the law currently stands, you would be able to promote this view.
However, if enough of those who supported the continuation of the monarchy objected and had your views banned in law, you may well feel unjustly oppressed or censored. it wouldn’t alter your stated view and indeed might have the effect of inciting you to become even more extreme in your objection.
That isn’t to imply that I agree with the BNP or any of its views…. but I feel that the best way to show one’s disapproval of such a party is to ensure that they consistently fail at the ballot box.
As long as they continue to lose their deposits at elections, they will sooner or later wither and die.
23 November, 2008 at 6:52 pm #387269I dont want a situation where you can vote for who you want as long as its a government approved party or we will be like China (although they did have good olimpics)
