2 June, 2008 at 1:13 am #339464This was a sensible thread, but with all the deleted posts it just looks silly now. Then again I’ve always attracted nutters.
As Sharon has often said, it does imply that all dodgy comments should be immediately quoted, although I might just have a wee problem with that. Cretins who constantly post rubbish looking for a reaction always seem to get exactly what they want both on boards and in the chatrooms. From exactly those whom they expect to reply, and sometimes I wonder if there isn’t an element of tacit approval for it all from above (seeing the stuff that doesn’t get deleted). I could bite back myself of course; however I’m rather allergic to appearing holier than thou, and prefer to laugh at the idiots rather than with them. It’s all good for ratings I guess and this is a commercial enterprise after all.
JC can usually be funny and thought provoking and I like that. But it ain’t real enough. The issue I have with a supplier at work is real. So is my daughter’s flute exam tomorrow night and the health of my gerbil. Anyway, at least I have got to know some very cool chatters.
(refrains from mentioning guns, bodily assault, bestiality, testicle-kicking or regurgitating something I misunderstood donkeys ago)
2 June, 2008 at 9:51 am #339465Your point is well made toybulldog. However, deleting individual posts out of a thread isn’t always as easy as it seems. Fine if there are only one or two of them but if it goes on for several pages – sometimes being ‘quoted’ and sometimes not – it can take a considerable amount of time scrolling back and forth through the thread deleting each post individually.
More often than not, objectionable posts (and objectionable replies) are made when a moderator os offline doing other things and by the time they are spotted …. the ‘damage’ has been done.

Hope your daughter did well in her flute exam. My kid had GCSE’s.. maths today (gulp) but she is handling it all quite well really. You know you are doing something right when your kids shine.
And…. don’t tell your gerbils about the party at PB’s, we may end up with gamsters or herbils. Enough to make an honest mouse shudder in the skirting boards.

A BLIND seven-year-old student at an Islamic school in eastern Pakistan has died after his teacher punished him for not learning the Koran, police said today.
Muhammad Atif was hung upside down from a ceiling fan and severely beaten by his teacher, Qari Ziauddin, at the seminary or madrassa in Vihari, near Lahore on Thursday.Pakistani Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani had ordered in inquiry into the death, an official statement said.
“The Prime Minister has expressed his deep sorrow and concern over the tragic death of Muhammad Atif, who reportedly died as a result of corporal punishment by his teacher”.
Police said the teacher had been arrested on charges of torturing and murdering the boy.
“Qari Ziauddin, who teaches Koran to boys in Qari Latif Islamic school, hanged Atif upside down with a ceiling fan in the school after beating him with sticks, which caused his death,” local police official Akram Niazi said.
The teacher also failed to take the boy to hospital after he fell ill and his condition deteriorated.
Police said a postmortem examination report also confirmed physical torture as the cause of death.

I am banned from the majority of supermarkets here for buying up all their bananas.
Minim, don’t get me wrong, I also enjoy bananas, but am nowhere near your stature. I’d say the most I’ve ever eaten in a day would be about……..somewhere around the one mark. So you would appear to be a great person to ask the following questions….
Which end do you peel the banana from ? I notice that most seem to peel from the end with the stem sticking out. But don’t you find that quite often the stem just splits instead of uncovering a neat section, or even breaks off completely if the banana is too ripe. This method does give me lots of problems. Even if one was to use a knife, it is hardly doable when on the go. I prefer to peel from the other end, what I call the “top”. I have experimented with just breaking them in half, but then have to cope with latent feelings of violence, plus of course it doesn’t work anyway if the banana is too ripe. Now monkeys eat in exactly the same way as my preferred manner, and I definitely consider THEM to be the experts. Most people reading this will be especially excited now they know that monkeys do it this way, after all, who doesn’t want to be natural. But there could be physiological differences between our species that make some other method more optimal for humans. So I am very curious as to how you eat YOUR bananas, being an expert who is also a person.
26 June, 2008 at 7:08 pm #339471Haven’t Spain just given monkeys and apes human rights, does that mean that humans can now be subjected to animal rights? Whatever the case I shall be content in the knowledge that at least their driving can’t be any worse than your average Spanish taxi driver… (I think I can hear the nurses calling for me to take my medication so toodleoo)
