hmmm.. you are right Giggles. I always thought American Pie had fantastic lyrics but I thought everyone knew the rationale behind the words – maybe that link goes a little TOO deep into his thoughts – did anyone think of asking Don McLean what he meant? Still, worthy contender for best lyrics, I agree.

I was actually taking the mickey with my suggestions as the first two song lyrics on this thread were hardly classics. ‘Ernie’ was a Pulitzer Prize candidate in comparison.

You have raised the standards with American Pie and maybe others will follow…time for me to stop spoiling the fun for the serious lyric lovers (ffs it’s only a matter of time before some twonk comes up with Tears in Heaven and even I am not hard-hearted enough to slag that person off).

I wish someone would start a ‘Worst Song Lyrics’ thread so I could still have my wicked way. Where to place ‘Ernie’ though??? That is the problem!!

Don’t worry about what the pseuds say Lamby – great song and lyrics that mean something to anyone with any common-sense and understanding. Enjoy it still!

I feel there is a general agreement that ‘Ernie’ was perhaps the best lyrics wot was ever wrote! Shall we have a vote on it – for or against (no shyte alternatives please – yes or no!!). Show your true colours….

ERNIE – FOR or AGAINST? Vote on the seperate thread (leave this thread to the loved-ups).
