Sorry I couldn’t stop and chat last night was celebrating (hic! doh my head)
Main reason for sudden broken wireless conectivity is usually down to Spyware, when I say sudden I mean nothing else has changed in terms of hardware or software? So, systematic checking, some of which you have already done.
1. Full spyware scan
2. Full virus scan
3. If you have a USB network adapter try reinstalling it
4. If you have a wireless PCMCIA card, check light activity on the card
5. Is the wireless icon in the system tray? and what colour is it?
6. Re-set up the wireless Network using a different SSID and use WPA encryption instead of WEP if the lappy is already wireless enabled.
7. Keep trying to re-connect after each of the above then you’ll narrow down the cause and hopefuly prevent it in the future. Most of these things should cure any problems if not all of them, apart form an adapter or router failure (which is rare) that should be it
If you had a power failure or someone turned off the router by accident it would of reset back to its default settings so you’ll need to re-run the set up software that came with the router/adapter again.Would be interesting to know how you fixed it.

Well, provided that your laptop is more than a metre away (minimum distance away, any less and wireless won’t work) check for any intereference in between, eg any other ‘remote’ equipment including telephones.
13 May, 2007 at 6:08 pm #270412Right think it may be the router love
Daughter has just gone on her desk top up stairs and her puter dont work on the net either
But you saying no intereference has made me think
We had cable (virgin ) fit new cables in other day the back of my pc could that be it do you think
Or is the router f00ked now lol
13 May, 2007 at 6:22 pm #270413Ok now we’re cooking
Sunny I just posted a reply for rob, it’s a four step guide to setting up a wireless network which you had running before VM re-cabled, I bet they turned off your modem without re-booting the router in the process, the router is fine it just needs re-configuring.
First, turn off all the computers, turn off (at the plug switch) the router and modem wait a mo (2-3 mins) then turn the modem back on and wait for the lights to settle down 2-3 mins, then turn the router back and let it settle as well, then turn on your PC and try to connect to the internet, then try a wireless PC etc
Go through the set up process from microsoft just to make sure your set up correctly, its a very useful guide
The PC and laptop should be ok from what you say.
