Try this link Bat:
http://www.java.com/en/download/windows_xpi.jspI found the old Microsoft java software here:
http://java-virtual-machine.net/download.htmlIf that’s no use you could try using a different browser like Firefox.
I use it and many people claim it’s better than IE.
http://www.mozilla.com/firefox/Finally, you could contact your ISP via email.
Good luck. :wink:22 January, 2006 at 8:38 pm #184587@Lambrini Girl wrote:

22 January, 2006 at 9:07 pm #184589Your problem may be the Windows firewall which is turned on automatically
by the SP2 update for Winsows XP.
There’s information about the firewall here:
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/security/internet/sp2_wfintro.mspxIf you’re using a seperate firewall I recommend you disable the Windows
firewall.

From the little I know about computers, I would tend to agree with you Owen … It sounds like a firewall issue ….
Just a daft thought … but … have you set some parental controls recently?
PB had Bat turn her firewall off (not the Windows one) and her problem
persisted. She’s just done a clean install of Windows so in theory nothing’s
been tweaked. I don’t know if Bat’s downloaded SP2 yet.22 January, 2006 at 9:24 pm #184591Would a zipped download of the sun java work if it was sent via msn? if so i have one.

It would indeed but I’m not sure that’s the problem. Why is she suddenly
unable to access some sites is very strange indeed.22 January, 2006 at 10:42 pm #184593@Ow£n Ka$h wrote:

23 January, 2006 at 12:10 am #184594Well I am also utterly stuffed on this one. Bat tried everything that I could think of.
Her IE 6.00 is correctly configured; her Hosts file is clear of everything except ”localhost” which is exactly as it should be; her Firewall is the usual Windows XP SP2 version and this was enabled AND disabled with no noticeable effect; she ”cleaned” her PC with anti virus scans, spyware scans; registry cleaners etc etc but none of this altered a thing. The problem remained.
Finally she re-installed XP Home. ( Cold booted up with the CD in the ‘D’ Drive; selected to re-install a ”new” operating System; and after around one hour (whilst it formatted the C: drive) she had a completely fresh Op System).
She re-connected to the internet (using her re-installed Broadband connection) and the same bloody thing happened again. I give in at this point.
She can access sites of practically any description but the ones where you can download Java seem to be barred to her – just as before. The only difference is that on Google the blue headings are now all blue whereas before they remained purple indicating that she had already clicked on them.
Every time the selected Java download page refuses to load. Initially I thought that maybe sha had dowmloaded some ”drive by’ malware that naffed up her Java and also blocked attempts to download and re-install it. Now I wonder if the issue lies with her ISP and somehow her service provider is in some way blocking attempts to load certain pages.
Does anybody have any experience of BT Yahoo parental controls or pop up blockers??? It just may be that the URL’s have in some way been loaded into their lists of barred sites.
23 January, 2006 at 1:20 am #184595Has anyone considered divine intervention? It maybe that God has a plan for her that doesn’t involve chatting on her ‘puter. I recommend a strict ascetic lifestyle of three weeks prayer, meditation and contemplation.
