Everytime I read the word fool I always say it in the way B A Barracus (A-team guy) says it…makes me giggle

Only fool would not check authenticity and believe first hand any information gathered.
Please tell me that you can see how these two statements contradict each other.

When i research things, i rely on text books and reference books available, this is either in the library, some book shops and the interweb… The information in the books is given as factual, ie history, geography and so on… To take the information at first hand without cross referencing it is indeed foolish…. You tell me what contradiction you see?

In one statement you are saying that if you discredit the information gathered in these books you are a fool.
In the other statement you are saying that only a fool would not not check authenticity and believe first hand any information gathered.
Ergo if you don’t check authenticity and believe the information gathered, you’re a fool; if you check authenticity and find the information to be incorrect, you would discredit it which would make you a fool.
Therein lies the contradiction….simples.
And history is not factual, it is a subjective view of events, several people can be at the same event but interpret the situation differently and present the “facts” differently. Each account is correct from the individual’s perspective, and it’s usually the winner’s account that is taken to be the historical record.
13 May, 2010 at 1:09 pm #440121All history is not fact.
13 May, 2010 at 1:13 pm #440122I also added that if you discredit the information, you should provide an alternative source…….. The information i refer to is general information that is available in buildings i have mentioned, the very same information that is used to educate in schools and colleges the world over. To discredit the information without providing alternative is foolish. As far as history is concerned then yes, it is mainly put out by those who are the victors but, in general terms it is considered factual and taught so

That being the case jen, we should remove all literature and reference books from public buildings and establishments, including schools and colleges right ?
and I’m still at a loss as to how you came to this conclusion.
13 May, 2010 at 1:26 pm #440124I disagree. If you take all the information you find in books, newspapers, the internet and so on as gospel and don’t question and discredit when appropriate, then you are a fool.
That being the case jen, we should remove all literature and reference books from public buildings and establishments, including schools and colleges right ?
I am of course assuming, that the information in the books is factual and that is why it is used to educate and inform, it goes without mention really, that regarding information in newspapers and other souces should no be taken as plain fact and should be cross referenced.
