When you go to Harrods the place is swarming with rich muslim women dressed in the full Burka, and I’ve never seen Burka’s for sale there  And all their bleeding chauffeurs in big Mercedes hanging around on the side roads with their engines running for hours on end, polluting the even more polluted streets of London. (no one mention my car please  )

Just felt like sharing that fact with y’all

Why we talking about Gazlan’s white sock fashion faux pas? As long as he only wears them with trainers and not sandals with his tight fitting shell suit it will be ok

Oh….reading this thread this morning I see Gazlan found his voice again

I lived in a highly multi cultural town for 13 years (Luton), I have worked with and befriended many Muslim people along the way and in my time have discussed at length some of the cultural and religious differences that they have with myself. I have learnt that the Islamic faith is one of peace and respect and therefore as Christians we have to understand and educate ourselves that the ludicrous attacks on the western world come from radical extremists who true Muslims find abhorent. It is understandable that resentment has grown within the various communities that live side but side, and this is due to the fact that modern culture is to bury your head in the sand and remain ignorant to what is new around you – and that is something ALL sides are guity of! I have a friend called Siara who is Pakistani by origin and who lives in the UK and she once told me that the whole Burka thing is ridiculous, she told me that they are uncomfortable to wear and that most women who wear them do so under the instruction of their husband or male relatives and that given a choice they would usually not opt to wear them, and there is no religious reasoning behind them.
So that said the arguement that banning them could infringe on human rights, we have to consider if human rights are already being infringed in making women wear them in the first instance.
Secondly, in certain places you are not allowed to wear any headgear… shopping centres have banned caps for example, as these pose a security risk, and the same can certainly be said of the Burka! So why one rule for one and another for someone else??

If my daughter went to school dressed like a nun she would be sent home for breach of the uniform regulations, or less dramatic if she wore a crucifix she would be made to take it off, so how come girls can wear scarves ?

I am all for live and let live, and a diverse population, but in these times where are terrorism and uncertainty I strongly agree with a ban on the Burka in public places where it poses a security risk

I disagree. If you take all the information you find in books, newspapers, the internet and so on as gospel and don’t question and discredit when appropriate, then you are a fool.

After all, what do you do when you encounter several sources on the same subject saying different and contradictary things? Do you accept them all?

And you know full well that Florrie’s post was not intended to be concerned about the clothing worn under the burkha in a fashion sense but to point out the hypocrisy of people who decry the West and all its finery when it suits them and their public face, then embrace the West when it suits them and their private lives. Don’t you?

That being the case jen, we should remove all literature and reference books from public buildings and establishments, including schools and colleges right ?

I am quite aware what Florrie was doing, she was generalising. People are entitled to spend their money on whatever they choose, she seems to think that because muslims wear branded clothing while remaining faithful is a flaw. “Decry” the west????? Just what do “they” “decry”??????
