France looks like its set to ban the Burka.
What are you views on this?
Personally I’m not sure how I feel on a full ban on a daily basis, but I would totally back a full ban going through airports. It’s amazing how some burka wearers are allowed to go through passport control and security checks without having to remove their veils to verify their mug shots.

Firstly, to my knowledge, there are no writings in the Islamic Book stating that women are compelled to wear such garments, it is therefore a personal choice and subject to personal interpretation.
secondly, as far as security is concerned, there is not one instruction in Islamic doctrine where this garment cannot be removed in the prescence of other females.
Just another slap in the face for Islamic tradition. The only way this can be supported is if the wearing of this garment is forced upon women, in which case i think current laws can then be called upon. It is largely through mis-interpretation of religious instruction that causes muslims in certain parts of the world to force women to adhere to wearing such garments, in which case they dis-respect their own doctrines.
12 May, 2010 at 6:50 pm #439997I dont really understand the reasoning for wearing the Burkha but i think France have also banned the wearing of other similar garments before the hijab in schools for instance.
12 May, 2010 at 7:01 pm #439998As far as i am aware, the Islamic instruction is that women must dress with modesty and lower their gaze. The Burkha is a loose fitting garment that prevents the outline of the female body being shown as per instruction, it does not include covering the head and face. This is as i have pointed out to do with interpretation of the instruction. It is beyond belief that any person be forbidden to wear any garment they choose to wear. It is also a womens choice to observe and profess her love of God and to submit herself to God…. This is just one further step towards a clash of civilisations. Absolute fear mongering on behalf of the french and the dutch for that matter….. complete rubbish !
12 May, 2010 at 8:24 pm #439999Except that as a follower of the Islamic faith if you can’t live by a country’s laws then you’re supposed to leave that country, not become all militant to get the laws changed. This and France is a Christian country, it therefore quite rightly has Christian law, and anyone who wants to live under Sharia law, or any other law, can jolly well sod off to a country that practices it. Were far more tolerant of ethnic diversity than any communist or muslim community is. No one is asking them to wear halter tops and mini skirts after all.

The law has nothing to do with the wearing of this garment, either sharia law or any other… Yes this is a christian country in the main, should we outlaw the wearing of the robes by the clergy ? or the dress code of the nun ?
