You’ve just checked your bank statement, only to discover a couple of days ago £1000 was added by your Bank; yet it’s not your cash it’s a definite error. Which of these is closest to what you’d do?

    GG

Years ago whenever i used to have alot of money, i made a lodgement at the bank of quite a substantial amount i must add. Anyhow when i recieved the cash slip i noticed to my surprise the lady had added £800 more than the said amount. So with a glint in my eye i strolled out the bank door whistling as i went, i even had a party that night to celebrate ffs.
I was well pissed off whenever the monthly bank statement arrived two weeks later and the extra money wasn’t in it. :x

    Just bloody typical!

Inform the bank. It has happened to me before and my brother worked with the Bank of Scotland at the time, if my memory serves me correctly, regardless of it being the banks error or not, you are still committing the crime of theft by removing that money from your account.

I wouldn’t spend it – I would just leave it and wait for the bank to ask for it back.

    inform the bank

I’d inform bank too… sooner or later they will realise and want it back anyway.

it actually did happen to me a few yrs back.
i spent it and nothing ever happened.
i thought it was my mam being generous as i was skint but she still denies it :D

I’d open a deposit account with another bank / institution and let the money earn interest until the bank wrote to me asking for their money back.

They would get it back immediatly BUT i would keep the interest.
