Yes, I was waiting for someone to go collect the true facts in response to my sarcastic response to Emma’s figures. Quite a difference from the £14bn (over 21bn in Euros) she quoted. Not that Emma takes all the statements from the BNP website as complete and utter truth, of course – she was only out by about five times over ;)
I was quoting the UKIP leader nigel farage who said recently it was approximately £15B.
“…the current estimates put it at £11 billion. The pro-EU Institute of Directors calculated it as more than double – and rising. Indirect costs – complying with regulations, loss of earnings from farming, fishing, etc., raise the overall cost still further.
Withdrawal from the EU would yield Britain a £25 billion Independence Dividend.”

So my chathost, next time you wana make yourself look good for the benefit of your website, THINK before you critisize in taking sides with a failed poster :D
The be all of this is, that whatever the net contribution and overall cost to the eu is, its too much, and shows that our political masters have yet again failed in their duties to represent the people who put them there via our taxes.
The BBC article used statistics obtained from HM Treasury and The European Commission, but what would they know. I’m sure UKIP and Talksport are much more reliable sources.
14 November, 2006 at 12:05 am #248012Slayer, if we pull out of the eu, people in the eu will trade with us if we make a good enough product.
To think that we have to pay to be part of a bigger community of countries and not be capable of holding our own is pathetic and lazy.
This poxy government are useless at training the unemployed here, which is now 1.7 million, 2.7 million on sick benefit, pretty much 3 million unemployed, the only thing thats kept new labour going is the natural progression of the telecommunications network, which they have naff all to do with. They are taxing us to the hilt (leaving your bin out longer than a day, pathetic) because they are useless without backbone.
Hospitals wards are CLOSING by an alarming rate, money is starting to get very tight, they have to fight illegal wars for money with innocent people who are under protected, and its only when new labour’s education (tax) headline collapsies that people will finally realise what a sincere cok-up they voted for, by then it will be a nightmare which will take ten years to get back.
mr bigastuff, no link, and to think the bbc are more trustworthy of the facts about the eu, than a political party thats got 12? mep’s, well, just shows your arogance.
Ask all the editors of all the national media, and i’ll bet more trust talksport than the Biased Bollax Company.14 November, 2006 at 8:46 pm #248013@emmalush wrote:

the EU is not an organisation which I support however I recognise the economic benefit of being in a single market. We should remain in the EU but by stick to its original principles of a common market place NOT some bureaucratic nightmare which impacts on our daily life

The common market YES, the E frigging U, no frigging way, its just a bureacratic organisation for lazy men in suits with five star access to transport and hotel accomodation, and of course to change my England into a european state, fook THAT!!!
14 November, 2006 at 9:50 pm #248015Emma, call me crazy but I happen to think The Treasury knows more about government spending than UKIP. You can read the BBC article yourself:
14 November, 2006 at 10:27 pm #2480163 years ago, what did “Britain paid 9.97bn euros into the EU budget but received 6.22bn euros in return” mean? What was that money spent on?
How much do we pay on a daily, monthly or yearly basis in the year 2006?
Why dont we spend the money ourselves, havn’t you lefty extremists got any backbone?
15 November, 2006 at 6:08 pm #248017Emma, the Budgets for the EU are worked out on a multi-annual basis. So the most recent budget was calculated for the period 2007-2013. Obviously you divide the contribution for that period by the number of years to work out the annual contribution. For the year mentioned in the article, the UK paid 9.97 bn into the EU coffers and received 6.22bn in return as part of the rebate that the UK has been entitled to since the 1980s. That’s not the totality of the amount of money the UK receives from the EU. The UK also receives money from various EU project funds.
Emma, I’ve already explained the benefits that we gain from being part of Europe, most of all via trade. If most of our exports go to Europe then it makes sense for us to be part of Europe otherwise we wouldn’t benefit from the common trade agreements and this would make our exports less competitive. Countries within the EU would just import products from our EU competitors instead. That would mean British business would suffer and could lead to job losses.

Why couldn’t we make a product that the french wouldn’t want ahead of the same product the germans made if ours was cheaper?
Why cant we just use the money ourselves, america dont pay towards it, they manage ok…

The Germans make better cars, the French make better wine, the Japanese make better electronic goods and the Poles are better plumbers. Get real emma!16 November, 2006 at 1:14 pm #248020The french make better wine because of the climate, we make better cider. Theres no proof the polish are better plumbers..and the japanesse arnt in the eu :D
We export a mass of music to all the countries in the EU, we import little.
We export football coverage to all the countries in the EU, weve done this for 30/40 years. We import spanish and breif highlights of the dutch and american league for show in the early hours on C5.We simply do not need to buy a membership card worth £2.5 billion annually, to buy cars from the germans, wine from the french, its pathetic politics.
