English is a funny language – non-English people can’t grasp it.

How stupid of you, Americans, Canadians, Irish, Scottish, Welsh, Australians, New Zealanders, Jamaicans amongst others grasp English perfectly, let alone millions of Scandinavians (amongst others) that speak it beautifully as a second language. Furthermore it is the International language for the world, try roaming further afield than the end of your street.

What a clever man you are!! I meant non-English speakers. No flies on you, Elvis. After all, you know that Theresa May is Prime Minister (sort of). *see the media pipedown thread. *flyswat at the ready

This is true Scep…..well with the people I know anyway…..I know friends and family in India who study and have studied in schools who teach English as a first language and Hindi second and when they are here or I am over there they struggle to understand what I say to them….not so much individual words but the way we put them together and the way we “eat” half our words (their description lol)

    Another account banned

    Chuckles quietly*

Prize Dick springs to mind….but that would be putting it lightly. It’s obvious that you’re all in this together and it’s not just one person banning me.

Some of your assumptions make you look like a complete tool Blossom….you really think any of us posters/chatters have any clout over banning you? You are very good at achieving that all by yourself…as you know Martin listens to no one….over the years most of us have sent him messages over grievances…we are lucky if he actually reads them let alone acts on them….

He acts on from what he sees here in black and white and the room I assume…..so take a step back and think what  you are doing wrong or have done wrong for you to be banned time and time again…..and then have a little think of why you feel the need to keep coming back…..its not healthy your paranoia and obsession

I know many people from Scandinavia (including children) that speak / write / read better English than many British people in JC. Thus, their fluency and “grasp” of English is superb for a second language.

Not just Scandinavians either,. many different nationalities from all over the World.

Glad night more quiet and calm on my job perhaps due to heat index. I am really going way out here. May be little explosive for a few but God knows starting to love all of you in these small and large arenas. This also includes my friend “RubyRed” who hates America, Americans, and wants me to ignore him as he will me, and can not share reasons why, when I offered kindness to help or better understand this deep rooted hate? Well I will comply with your wishes. Just disappointed in you. Sorry..
Many have been kind helping me, even supporting and this too has been a delight. So if you like what is said by me or not I do read and digest what is shared, even explored. (Now talk about language and different words of meaning for a sentence)please no one attack me for my grammer. It is now almost 3 in the morning.
Language ahh so here is example: (perhaps different not sure): let’s dance, “RubyRed.” What is meaning of “here say of Lurrrve?” I am confused as Americans are! “Amerikay caused 9/11” Are you saying Americans did or responsible for 911? GEEZ I wish they gave me a warning so New York, Washington, Pa. Could have closed up shop and gone on holiday.
“RubyRed, this proud, born, American salutes you! (Hey scep too much going on with threads, so tried to group responses back here, make sense. Thanks)

Recognized English/American difference perhaps in language use for you seminar:101

“Holiday” for you I note is what we call “vacation” in which we go away, relax and so forth.

“Holiday” for us are nationally recognized ones observed in which Federal Offices closed some other institutions as well. Wall Street..**Schools close as well.**
    New Year’s Day
    Martin Luther King Day
    President’s Day
    Memorial Day
    Independence day
    Labor Day
    Columbus Day
    Thanksgiving Day
    Christmas
*schools have other days off too- conference day, superintendent day, winter and spring breaks.
Heavy snow storms usually delays but all schools try to be in before noon so the districts still get paid funds from education department which helps with operation. School closures in real bad storms, not provided additional funds.
So how did we all do?

    Ms K,

there are two different types of English.

On is formal English, what used to be called BBC English. This is the English people abroad learn. English people are not good at it, not at all.

The other is spoken English. People who write East Enders and Coronation Street try hard to get this, and so do writers for The Sun (Cor Blimey! Wot a scorcher!). It’s the English most people use, and it’s this which confuses non-English speakers.

There are many local types of this spoken English. Starving in parts of Yorkshire mean cold. Then there is ‘mithering’ etc etc.

No wonder you get confused, Linda, with Red Ruby (who is actually a woman). She’s frae Bonnie Scotland and the Scots have a language all of their own. Glasgow has an accent all of its own, too.

    Sorry

Sorry Scep, but you’re doing it again, twice in a day. Please STOP speaking for me.

English people are not good at it, not at all.

Please speak for yourself, as I’m very good at it, totally fluent.

How about some English people, or lots of, plenty, many or most?

Politics may well be your forte, but linguistics certainly isn’t. I do speak fluently a few languages. Anyway, whilst I’m here at it,.

there are two different types of English.

Wrong, there are many, how about pidgin, patois, or Norglish just off the top of my head.

BBC English. This is the English people abroad learn.

Wrong again. I have children in Norway that dont have English as a first language, and have learnt their English from me, thus they use and pronounce certain words with a North London twang, which is far from the BBC. The English text books and CD’s used in their school also features Scottish, Irish and Jamaican pronounciations.

It’s the English most people use, and it’s this which confuses non-English speakers.

Sorry but this sentence makes little sense. As a non-English speaker how would they be confused? it would be all double dutch to them. I don’t suppose you’re a Somali speaker, ( if you are, change that to Swahili or Icelandic) so you wont be getting confused between BBC Somali, Mogadishu or Somaliland dialects will you?

    Oh Boy…

After last night’s mess on a discussion, today has left me pretty much feeling down down down. Every day is a new beginning, sure do not want to mess up again early in afternoon.

Curious had this cat look in to those chatting around again. Need to do some research as well to comments made by a pretty woman disclosing her age.
(Wait if you are thinking..still prefer opposite gender for friends and company)

Confusion, you bet. Trying to understand, learn, you bet. Looking at all the angles however from comments made, trying to put pieces into the puzzle. Never was good at to many pieces in a puzzle though. Hee. Eventually all made to fit, right?

    Thoughts and ideas help nevertheless.
