I dont normally enter these techy rooms because being a woman, and blonde as well…..well I expect you get the picture?
Anyway, could any of you boffins give me some advice pls?
……I recently downloaded and installed Avast 4 Home edition, the anti virus thingy?
Anyway, it installed ok and I restarted my pc and it did a boot scan and actually came up with two viruses, which were deleted right away!……I was well impressed actually, it takes me ages to shake off a flu virus, but anyway to continue……..later on I started my pc up again and found that I couldnt access my browser page ( firefox) and also I couldnt use the yahoo browser either!……just kept saying ‘ Check your internet connection etc…….that was ok.
So, I uninstalled Avast, and hey presto!……back on line!!
    Why is that ?…….
It would be a shame not to use it, I quite liked the little blue revolving ball thingy in my taskbar…….

Any explanations?…….was it something I should have done and didnt?…….

Hi Seeker. Avast anti virus software acts on your internet connection so as to prevent nast stuff from being accidentally downloaded (drive -by Malware for example).

To do this you have to set up your internet connection so that Avast will recognise the browser and its method of connecting to the internet.

To make this easier they have published a short video telling you how to do it, which you can view here …>>

Do let us know if this fixes your issue.

Hi Forumhost, thanks for your help, I checked out the tutorial but it only mentions ‘ dial up connections ‘, mine is broadband……I’m not sure if the same procedure would apply in my case would it?
I’ll go back to Avast site and check if theres anything about broadband connection probs too.

I’ll get back to you with the results!!…..

Sorry, my error in assuming that this was your type of connection. They have several tutorials on their site to deal with common issues (such as yours) which by now you have probably found.

However, always remember that there is no such thing as a free lunch !!!

    Hope you fix your connection.
