oh no and here was me thinking you were a yorkshire lass :) I actually love accents too, though i tend to mimic them after a few minutes. Whilst working in a Hotel In London many years ago i picked up a german accent ! As the fascist boss had an agent in germany.. So it was all school kids of 17/18… The actress Joanne whalley has it too ( not the german boys,, the mimic thing). can be a bit ofa pain at times as sometimes folks think im taking the micky.. as IF i would do that ;)

Tomorrow I am in full Newport Pagnell accent mode !

I have my holidays at the service station in Newport Pagnall. I love a crusty bap with lashings of ginger beer.

    *sighs wistfully at the memory*

Interestingly, in a discussion with a jobcentre manager, I asked him what the status of a benefit claimant is while attending one of these mandatory courses IE: student, unemployed. . . . When attending one of these courses, claimants are given what is known as a “training allowance”, a small top up to assist attending costs etc. 8)

I asked the manager if the claimant becomes a student when attending. No ! he said to me. No said I! Are they still benefit claimants I then asked, he told me that they are still benefit claimants but on a training scheme. Ah, so they are students then, I said , thinking that any person on a training course is a student. No he said, they are still claimants.

Then perhaps you can explain to me why a P45 is received by claimants on attendance I asked. You could have heard a pin drop, in fact I think I even heard the blood rushing to his head. :D

It would appear that there is no known description for a benefit claimant attending one of these mandatory courses in our language. They are effectively in limbo. Not a student despite training, not a benefit claimant despite being out of work, not even an employee if sent on a “work experience” session with a company.
Now why do you suppose that is? :?

PS ~ even in all the LOVELY accents in this country, I cannot find a description for this status. Perhaps one of our recent invaders can enlighten us here. 8)
