    Arthur

On summit high of pine clad peak,
whose slopes this night I climbed to seek
a ray of moonlight to break my frown,
I touched those stones and sat me down.
    Below, the valley blackly spread
beneath my feet, I peered ahead
o’er dark horizon, to stars…and farther.
Begged “guide me now, my trusty Arthur”.
Oft times afore I’ve sought thy help,
e’er since I found thee, a mere whelp
whose childhood hopes such worries strained,
for manhood’s strength had not been gained.
Such peace and comfort found I there
in times of worry, in dark despair.
My thoughts and doubts I came to air
with thee, my rock, who be always there.
Tonight I came, not child but man,
yet like that child who to thee ran
I sought a shoulder, a hand to guide me
across this chasm I find inside me.
Carved by river, fed by streams
    of selfish wishes, distant dreams,
now flowing together, a torrent whole
enough to engulf this foolish soul.
In darkness I passed this night away
alone with thee, didst hear thee say
the truth I know within this heart
yet to myself could not impart.
I felt thee touch my inner mind
and guide my thoughts to help me find
that way to cross……which now I must,
so to thee my friend I doth entrust
those symbols born from what now seems
were selfish hopes, just one man’s dreams.
I place them in thy lasting care
enwrapped and buried with thee there.
    Dreams interred but ne’er dismissed
for perchance one day, if clears this mist,
some roots from buried dreams may sprout
and a tree of hope may blossom out.
If comes that day then thou shalt see
me climb thy hill once more, set free
to reclaim my dreams and carry them farther.
‘Til then my thanks, and farewell Arthur

Always some thing inspirational and even magical about scaling a big hill and looking out over the distant views, inhaling in the lovely fresh cool air.
