    LIKE

In my teens i had a habit of saying Like at the end of all sentances. It was my dad who stopped me, after each sentance he would say “like what?” It annoyed the crap out of me and hightlighted how much i’d say it that i evendually stopped – Cheers dad xx

when I first went to university, I was horribly embarrassed by my working-class accent. It’s a thing among many uni people, I know, to talk as though they’re members of the House of Lords, whereas their background is as humble as mine. Sooo humiliting to use words like ontology wiht a glottal stop.

After a month I was herded into a language lab where the English tutor, an expert in accents, taped each one of us and guessed where we came from. I was thrown into a major crisis, and tried to talk in what I assumed to be a posh accent. Laughter galore as the tutor looked at me for a horribly long time in silence, and then said, next please.

I was so ashamed. After that, I thought Sod it, I talk like me and people had better get used to it.

Can anyone tell me the difference between “United Kingdom” and “Great Britain”?

I know in the Eurovision Song Contest we’re the United Kingdom and at the Olympics we’re Great Britain. And at football or rugby we’re England (or Scotland or Wales).. The question I’m asking is what else can we call ourselves to muddy the waters a bit more?
    Please don’t say “European” :?

I’m certainly not British and to be honest i resent being tagged as English. I don’t want to be associated with people from London, Birmingham ect, they are nothing to do with me and can be nuked for all i care.
