Along with the constant letters from insurance companies that offer bonus’s for the over 50’s,and batches of sega holiday brochures I recieved an invitation in This Mornings post for a Breast Scan. I had a mammogram a few years ago for a suspected lump, and I hated it!
I got this in an email a few days later and it summed it up perfectly! Many women are afraid of their first mammogram, but there is no need to worry. By taking a few minutes each day for the week preceding the exam and doing the following practice exercises, you will be totally prepared. And best of all, you can do these simple practice exercises right in the privacy of your own home.
Exercise #1:
Freeze two metal bookends overnight.
Strip to the waist.
Invite a stranger into the room.
Press the bookends against one of your breasts.
Smash the bookends together as hard as you can.
Repeat with the other breast.
Set an appointment with the stranger to meet next year and do it again.Exercise #2
Open your refrigerator door and insert one breast between the door and the main box.
Have one of your strongest friends slam the door shut as hard as possible and lean on the door for good measure.
Hold that position for five seconds.
Do this again in case the last time wasn’t effective enough.
Then repeat with the other breast.Exercise #3
Visit your garage at 3 a.m. when the temperature of the concrete floor is just perfect.
Take off all your warm clothes and lay comfortably on the floor with one breast wedged under the rear tire of the car.
Ask a friend to slowly back the car up until the breast is sufficiently flattened and chilled.
Turn over and repeat for the other breast.CONGRATULATIONS! Now you are properly prepared for your mammogram
It’s nowhere near as bad as that of course, but you get the picture!
7 July, 2011 at 9:51 am #453020double eeeeeek !!! cheers jen. :) Better to be psychologically prepared i suppose. My poor wee boobs twinged in horror at the thought. well, their NOT “wee”. but i suppose having more than a handful is better for those ice -cold plates !
oh joy.. :)
7 July, 2011 at 9:58 am #453021Hmmm having more than a handful makes them easier to get between the plates but they seem to take even more delight in squishing them as flat as they can, I’m sure my boobs are not supposed to EVER go that shape…but then they have to if they’re to make sure that everything’s ok so I guess a few minutes discomfort is a small price to pay. Although when you glance across at the flat-chested nurse and the look of smug satisfaction on her face as your poor booby is squished as flat as a pancake and she says “just a few minutes more, I need to make sure I get as clear an image as possible” you do wonder…
7 July, 2011 at 11:15 am #453022jeez – gonna burst the bubble here!
Had a mammogramme a few yrs ago – boobies too small to get the lump – ended up having a scan – was a blocked milk-duct! (Dawta is now 19!) Soz chaps – my sig is a bit misleading!
7 July, 2011 at 11:22 am #453023I had a mammogram about 20 yrs ago now…..was a horrendous experience I hope they have improved the way they do them now…….I was nearly in tears (I know I know)…however was worth it as I needed surgery.
Oh Rubes thanks for reminding me I have to book my smear………the joys of being female hey
7 July, 2011 at 11:49 am #453024I had to go and have investigations and a biopsy a few years ago in that region and I was sitting in the waiting room and some guy nearing retirement was coming in calling for the ppl ahead of me so I thought nothing of it. Anyway there must have been a shift change coz when it came to being my name called this drop dead gorgeous Dr of a similar age to me came wandering in and called my name.
Couldn’t help but find the whole thing uncomfortable and under any other circumstances would have loved a hotty like that playing with my lady lumps but at that moment I wanted the ground to swallow me whole (especially at the questions he asked).
Haha it’s all what makes life interesting though huh? -
