Flaming nora, one light hearted comment in the anything you like thread by me and it turns into the evils of facebook and children’s rights!

Anyway, back to anything you like…why doesn’t cinnamon powder dissolve in hot milk? Instead it forms a scum on top…most unpalatable. Or maybe I need a new thread, anything you don’t like.

I would start a new thread Jen Jen – it will probably open a whole can of worms!!!

I allowed both my two to have facebook, as all their friends do. A bit like kenty’s eldest, I checked out their settings and I used to (now they both over 18) get an alert if either one of them got an invite which was accepted. Quite relieved now cos they both had well over 200 peeps on! lol I also made sure I had access to their home, just in case.

Personally, I think it is a very dangerous site if you don’t know what you are doing, bit like me at first, I learnt the hard way!

I would like to point out though, about this site. I think the Private Messages tool is good, however, should a minor (who’s parents haven’t blocked adult sites) be in here and get a message from a paedo or wotever, it is undectable, so it is roughly the same as facebook – sorry JC, but it is true!

aint you told us lots of times you had probs with face book
so what is the point of checking your kids settings

you didnt managed to protect your own

I agree, not at the very beginning, but when I learnt my lesson, my kids didn’t have face book, so when they did, I could show them what to do.

Another thing, their schools were brilliant – they actually advised the kids to allow their parents to be one of their friends. By then, though, when all the media hype about it became afore, my two already knew, and had.

The fact remains that Facebook, by its very nature, encourages people to add people as friends, when they actually do not know them. They are then given access to information they would not normally know.

Facebook has been in the public eye for putting a middle aged man into contact with people who then abused children in their care and sent him images. It is not just one isolated incident. There is nothing friendly about this and I was not joking when I said it was the work of the devil. Even the most innocent seeming applications within Facebook collect information on everyone who uses them. It is Big Brother.

It has become too large and unweildy and open to corruption. If you want to use it at all, restrict the people on it to people you REALLY know. And even that has the potential for harm.

    I wholeheartedly agree, unfortunately :(

jaysus.. as a FB user with NOT one person from on here on it.. I cannot see the harm. we use it to discuss weekend trips, drunken nights and laughs galore. combined with problem solving if one of us has a problem, either politically on the Left, the troubles of Dundee FC and the 25 point penalty.. A pregnant pal, a newly made grandmother, a guy who is bugged that the pillars bar in Dundee, closed today and will be re-opened as some wine lounge. An ananrchist web site where i scoff at their airy fairy ways of taking money to heal folks by firewalking and the need for shamens !

Hell aye,, we get out of it what we put in..

stop being so fooking ANAL !

    I dunno rubes.

Wasn’t FB the site invented by an american student that quickly spread to the children of the western world before adults clicked on thinking they were being with it ? And you mean to say that people still use it ? . . . . . . . . shock, horror . . . . . . all I see is the abegnation of personal responsibility combined with a bandwagon factor. But then I would.

Nothing and I mean nothing will ever beat a handwritten letter, preferably with real tear stains, sent by her majestys post. Gawd bless her. I heard that she actually sorts all the envelopes that go through Windsor post office.
