I know times are hard for many of us but…
I’ve just had a grandmother and her 2 grandchildren in the shop playing a game “what would we buy if we could afford it”. Apparently they’re going into all their favourite shops playing this and the grandmother explained that both her son and daughter in law are out of work at the moment and it’s all they can do to keep the roof over their heads and food on the table.
Seeing the faces of the 2 little girls as they left, I had to wonder…was this game fun or cruel?
And no, before anyone asks, they didn’t steal anything.
or was it supposed to play on your emotions and you were supposed to say……” here, have this”…..?
actually, that was My First thoughs too ! We have all felt skint times ( surely) the times I made my own Christmas Decorations when My son was small. anything else was a bonus !
ruby i’ve been there too making paper chains and snowflakes for hours on end with my children………..you know what?…..those lean times i have fond memories of………and life was a lot simpler then
I remember it well tinks.. was a bad winter and this was in the days of the 50p meters. I boughts a disney book from bargain books and the joy we had glueing things. and the feeling of acviement having snow white with glitter on top of a plastic tree :) I had always worked, and was put on the “sick” while pregnant. My doctor almost invited me to say i was ok.. and my money was cut in half back then. I never realisd the difference. ! He never suffered and this was back in the day near 30 years ago when we never had central heating or double glazing. My life was keeping him cosy. and i did and can make a mean pot of soup ever since :) I still do it.. keep in pulses and beans ( just in case) ..I feel almost guilt at the heat to whit my daughter was brought up in :)
you are right.. taught me a form of humbleness that i needed x
Scots rarely need to be taught humbleness. It is breed with the culture. The dichotomy of extreme pride and humbleness at once.
The ying and the yang.
Sometimes in my darkest hours I think we are people apart and I live in an alien land.
:(
27 October, 2012 at 11:53 pm #453656ONLY you could have said the above and gotten away with it ^^ .. Was still Thatchers Britain, There was a purge on folks recieving sickness benefits. G.p’s were rewarded for gtting folks off the sick and onto “job seekers” .. in all reality, I could barely move after a butcher sewed me up, and the infections i got through NHS .. and that was during the Clean phase !
back then, those at job seekers knew who was actually pysically able to work.
Nowadays i feel sorry for folks that work in the Civil service, as they have Targets.. they send folks with NOT an O’level for jobs as brain surgeons etc. NOT a joke ! .

I’d vote for independence from the UK if given the choice. Why aren’t you voting ‘yes’?

gawd… oh dear I could be here all night.. In a nutshell I am a Socialist, that supports the fellow, like the Welsh and the North Of England that was shafted by Thatcher too. I beleive we should stay together for a greater being. The snp promised things like freedom from NATO etc, that they have went back on. I just know the leadership is as bent as thin ices promises. For years and years i have been told to vote S>N>P for true socialism !! then i see the standards.. a grand majority of my friends are ardent supporters of nationlism, and cannot quite understand my reluctance.
I would rather a socialist U.K . of folks under the same banner and hopes for the future, than half a dozen politicos that beleive our past lay in a woad laden Mel Gibson shouting ” freedom”..
as much s i adore Being Scottish. Im quite happy being part of a union of the United kingdom .. to coin a phrase.. ” some of my friends are English” :)
28 October, 2012 at 12:09 am #453661I am sure i even said hello to a Black, Gay person.. once !!

I used to be one of them and then I changed my mind. If being independent means that Gordon Brown is banished from England altogether then I’m all for it. Even Thatcher couldn’t have f***** up the way he did.
