Customer: I’m looking for some more of those nice letter openers with a crystal on the handle that I bought from you before.
Me: Sorry but I’ve never sold letter openers, are you confusing us with (name of competitor now closed)?
Customer: No, I know where I bought them and I definitely bought them here. Are you going to be getting more in?
Me: Sorry madam but I’ve never sold letter openers, I can see if I can get them in for you though.
Customer: Of course you’ve sold letter openers! Maybe you didn’t work here then, it was about 8 years ago.
Me: Oh we’ve only been open for 3 and a half years, I think maybe you’re confusing us with the gift shop that used to be across the way, she retired about 4 years ago.
Customer: (looking over the top of her glasses) Young lady don’t argue with me, I KNOW where I bought them. Hasn’t anyone ever taught you that the customer is always right? Come on Joan, we’re not going to find them here.
What can you say?
