Surely one of the funniest, smartest sitcoms ever. A real treasure trove of quotes and proof positive the yanks can do sarcasm when they try!

The Americans do comedy so much better than the Brits.
They work and write together in teams rather than the one-man-writes-script “comedy” shows from this country.
Frasier is a great show but there are so many you could mention.
Scrubs is one of my favourites.13 April, 2008 at 8:56 pm #325645I’ve never found American Sitcoms to be that funny, maybe I havent given them a chance, I dunno :?
The only one i’ve taken to is friends and that took some getting used to. I didnt get into it until way after everyone else i knew watched it. But yeah its ok
….hey how you doin
13 April, 2008 at 9:00 pm #325646I agree when they get right they get it right! But for every Terry & June we produce you can point at a Cosby Show or Friends. All style and little substance.
Brit Comedy traditionally is more cutting edge and is sharper. Even something as fluffy as Dinnerladies is beautifully observed and crafted, compare that with Rosanne. Rosanne was edgy in the beginning but descended into sterotype and vulger. That said there were only two series of Dinnerladies and Rosanne squeezed every last ounce of life out of the concept!
13 April, 2008 at 9:02 pm #325647I’m good thanks Pebbles, you? I note whilst I was typing I just diss’d Friends LoL
I’m sure you’re not a bad person for liking it! :D

The fact they work together in teams is arguably a disadvantage.American Comedy can be to sophisticated and too full of themselves.
South Park, Simpsons etc are in your face and all the better for it. Some of their sitcoms are ok, some of them are sh.it.
British Comedy in my opinion is far better.13 April, 2008 at 9:10 pm #325649@Bad Manners wrote:

I disagree. But we could spend the whole thread arguing about it which would be wrong.
I mean, this isn’t the “on the buses” thread is it?13 April, 2008 at 9:19 pm #325650Oh I love the style of humour in Frasier, from the old man’s chair right down to the theme tune, I miss it a lot.
13 April, 2008 at 9:22 pm #325651So Sharon, are you more “a bit physic!” Daphne, or “twice around the block” Roz? :D
