Anuj Bidve, a 23 year old Indian student at Lancaster University, was shot dead on Boxing Day. His crime seems to have been that he was Indian – that is , a different shadng of skin and a different culture (in many ways, a culture superior to ours).
His family are shattered; his dad has spoken out, obviously feeling the pain which none of us want to experience. If you have lost your child, especially to a violent end, then you’ll understand.
The racist atmosphere of lies and ‘jokes’ which can thrive when unchallenged has created the environment in which some vicious man has taken this action.
Apparently, there is a good deal of anger among ordinary people in Salford over this racist murder. It’s this anger which makes me feel hope and not shame at being British. To me, being British at its best is being proud of traditional liberties, toleration and a welcome to guests from around the world, not the crabbed and mean hatred of a racist and neo-Nazi minority. I hope the people of Salford stand up on this one and reject the vicious racists in their community.
There is a page for Anuj on Facebook.
