28 April, 2008 at 5:48 pm #332179only the above and it seems to work, the other herbal treatment i have used on my horses for years is chickweed, you boil it down and mix with lard let it cool and use it as a salve on cuts and abrasions works very well as good as any veterinary treatment better in some cases, never used it on humans not sure why really, but i do believe it is great for skin problems and has anti rheumatic properties but how it is used for that i dont know, but for animals it gets a thumbs up.
Oh and i always have witch hazel in my cupboard, use on both animals and human great for bumps bruises and cuts but it does sting lol28 April, 2008 at 5:53 pm #332180@pats wrote:

You are doing yourself no favours by taking antibiotics, they have side effects, starting with the almost total loss of all the ‘domesticated’ bacteria in your gut, that do you no harm at all. They also have other side effects, lest we forget they are chemicals designed to poison living things.
Many illnesses are in fact caused by viruses, who have taken hold opportunistically because bacteria have sprung up somewhere. Doctors are rightly very reluctant to prescribe antibiotics because over time, bacteria grow resistant, and bacteria do not multiply and form new novel strains at the same that we can invent antibiotics.
You may well be able to purchase amoxicillin (this is a commonly used drug in pigs actually) at the chemist everytime you get a cold, but there Is no way I would take them- all well and good until one day you end up in hospital with some more serious problem, they prescribe antibiotics and lo and behold, they don’t work…
You are supposed to continue taking a course of antibiotics because they do not have a good half life in the body, so need replacing regularly, and of course you want to kill all the pathogenic organisms you are trying to get rid of, rather than expose a few to a non-lethal dose of antibiotics and thus encourage them to become resistant.

Anyone use homeopathic stuff? Do you think it works?
What about other alternative treatments, like reflexology or acupuncture. Anyone have any experiences with anything like that? Also chinese medicine shops seem to be springing up in all the main shopping centres, has anyone tried any of their remedies?
My dad has tendonitis, he had acupuncture and herbal remedies from the chinese doctor, it did nothing, 300 quid down the pan, I was told that chinese remedies are full of steriods, not sure how true it is.
My mates sister is terminally ill with cancer, she has been taking herbal remedies, not to save her but to prolong her life, she feels alot better and her count is higher than it was, who knows maybe it’s just the good before the bad or self belief but she is doing alot better.30 May, 2008 at 4:43 pm #332187chinese medicine has been around for 4,000 years, whereas western medicine is relatively new, particularly penicillin and antibiotics.
Taking a course of tablets that make you well in a week or ten days seemed very like magic. Chinese medicine apparently takes longer to work, but readjusts the whole body. Acupuncture is now being prescribed on the NHS for some things though. I think we are going to have to look at alternatives as bugs get more resistent to all our potions and pills.
The human body is a marvellous bit of kit. It is worth taking care of.
